You can use a makeup sponge to apply glitter.

Use a sponge to apply glitter polish for a more dense application. The sponge soaks up the clear polish and leaves the glitter on the sponge ready to apply. This will help cut down on the many layers you have to apply to get good coverage and on excess polish. Great tutorial btw!

Megan Richter​ yes they do stick to the sponge, but once you start dabbing on fingernail they will transfer to the nail. Just like with a normal gradient using polishes, don't dab too much or you'll pick up the color or leave pieces of sponge behind. Do one layer at a time- put glitter polish on sponge, dab onto fingernail, and then more glitter polish, repeat. Do until you are happy with coverage.

I use petroleum jelly/vaseline to coat my finger because the nail polish doesn't stick to it, so cleaning up is super easy with a q tip as the polish on my finger just wipes straight off! Also, if you have a wider container, you can dip more than 1 finger in at a time to save wasting so much polish. Perhaps easier with a friend!

use bottled water that is warm run under faucet if your house is cold pour in to a glass container that you can fit your fingers into up to the second knuckle. Let water sit for a few minutes shake and open all the polish you will be using fresh polish works best and I have found that wet and wild polish works great and cheap polish under $2 works good like the stuff you can get at Dollar Tree and Hair places. Don't waist your expensive polish on this. container needs to be at least 3 inches across so the polish can spread out.

You can use Vaseline on your finger to make clean up 10 x easier lol the polish won't stick to the Vaseline or petroleum jelly!!

To combat the patches with no chunky glitters, I'd suggest sponging! Just put the polish on a makeup sponge so that the sponge absorbs some of the base polish, and then you'll be left with mostly glitter which you can then sponge on, giving the desired effect :-)

can anyone recommend any good nail oil she's for doing marble designs, cuz I have tried this a bunch of times and every time when I try go in and swirl the toothpick, it has like a weird layer of stuff on top like a skin and it's nearly impossible to use the toothpick. Gorgeous!! Will definitely try this! I've heard applying vaseline to area surrounding the nails work too. You just apply it all over and wash it off when you're done. Haven't tried it myself, but I hear great things about it.

One thing you can do differently if you dont want to dry out your skin use liquid latex (simply Peel) to cover your skin around the nail once you take the finger out simply peel the latex.

Apply a coat of glitter, next grab a makeup sponge the white triangle shaped ones, paint your glitter Polish on the sponge and dab it on your nail, you will get maximum glitter and the sponge soaks up any excess clear gel, you end up with super glitter nails all in one thin coat :)

Some other great clear polishes for water marble are Ulta 3 'Clear' and Jordana 'Clear' A lot of top coats won't work in the water, it's a lot of trial and error but those two in particular work great! ;)

To get glitter on your nail...just paint it on a sponge... the liquid will soak into the sponge & the glitter will adhere to the nail easily by tapping it on your nail like your doing a gradient.

You will get a better glitter pay off if you apply the glitter polish to a makeup sponge. The sponge will absorb most of the polish so the when you dab the sponge on your nail you get more glitter and less polish.

when I do this I use a thin layer of vaseline around my nails. the excess polish sticks to the vaseline and the vaseline also moisturizes the skin around my nail in the process.

Applying liquid latex around your cuticle will speed up cleanup. Also, if you dip the dotting tool int the water you don't need to wipe it off.

If u put some lotion, the excess polish will move away from your finger when u place it in the cup, or put some lip balm on your finger, all u have to do is wipe it off with toilet paper or whatever without remover and it comes off right away.
