yeah these softeners need more regular maintenance attention than we realize. Glad it helped some and hope you subscribed!

What's the normal amount of salt. How do you determine your water hardness?

It appears my "salt bridge" extends all the way to the bottom of the tank. Do I have to remove all of the salt?

Do you need to clean out all the salt you break up on the salt bridge or will it eventually dissolve?

I would like to see the video for maintenance. What do I add to my softener for longevity.

I've had my ecowater softener for over 10 years but didn't know about the available cleaners or what services I should have been doing. We do know that for a couple of years the toilets started getting the hard-water rims and it seemed less effective. My question is, can I try some of the brine cleaners on some of these sites with salt still in the tank or should I remove all the salt and start from scratch? I normally always keep the salt levels up and use a broom handle to check for salt bridges but I'm new to the cleaning part. Thanks for the video.

I use a product called Iron Out. The container has instructions on the back for softener maintenance. You can find it at grocery stores, hardware stores, Wal-Mart, etc.

Steps of Regeneration 1)Backwash cycle "cleans" the resin beads 2) Brine gives the resin a positive charge to attract the minerals out of the water" 3) Rinse washes out the brine , so you're not drinking or washing with it 4) Fill - refills the brine tank, if the safety float is too low , the tank may bridge bc the salt on top is not getting dissolved and eventually sticks together, giving the appearance of "not using salt" . 5) Service/Softening - The length of time the resin can effectively attract the minerals out of the hard water. I usually give the tank a couple shakes while it's filling to knock any hard salt loose, and make sure brine safety float is in right spot

Why do you have to regenerate after you breakup the bridge? Isn't the salt bridge that's broken up STILL salt that is used for the softening?

How often to break up the salt bridge?
@PilotJon Жыл бұрын
As often as needed, I have only had one in the last 2-3 years

How much salt do you add to the brine tank? I have a Charger water softener with a separate brine tank. The person who installed it said to keep the water level above the salt, but I have seen other videos that say the opposite.

Great question- no you don’t
