Oh yeah neocolor 2, I love them. I also have the lyra watercolor crayon and they are really nice too. Great for taking it easy, creating an art nest on the couch, watching a cozy Rom-com which is exactly what I'm going to do this afternoon.

@@SarahBurnsStudio just know the neocolors have a slight edge. So stick with those unless you find the lyra for a great price. That's how I ended up with the lyra the price was to good to pass up. But they are usually comparably priced.

I love w/s pencils, both for sketching and for finished works. I've got the Caran d,ache muséum aquarelles, a F Castells, and Inktense, which I love because they are permanent and you can paint over them. The neo IIs are great as well, but more opaque. My wee sketching bag has a selection of was pencils and a porta palette and can do everything! You'll have great fun with that lovely selection! Hope you feel better soon 💐

Fun video! Thanks for sharing your haul. The Caran d Ache bi color looks like a fun set for plein air. One trick I enjoy with water soluble pen/pencil/crayon is pulling the line AWAY from the object and into the background on the lit side and INTO the object as a shadow on the shadow side.

Almost hate to tell you this because they are so expensive but wait till you try the caran d’ache museum aquarelle they dissolve beautifully and they are almost gouache like. Another great one is steadtler tinted watercolor pencils like graphitint but more vivid not to pricey (the set with the beaver on the tin). Lovely video and I hope your feeling better soon.

Gotta love random cat appearances - and Floki did you a favour, you can't be precious about a sketchbook if it's already been muddied up 😂 I'd love to see a future video on the neocolor II crayons (try taking pigment off with a damp brush and applying it straight to the paper for light washes and tiny details!). The bicolour pencils look amazingly useful being double ended, but being limited edition I'd never use them because I know I couldn't replace them - I know the standard ones are available, but I'll stick with my current options

THIS IS SO SUPER HELPFUL! I've been considering buying the Caran dAche Neocolor II set, but it's so much money that I put it off. But to see how they work up close makes me feel more sure about it. So much fun! I too needed something new to experiment with and got the lyra water soluble wax pastels (mkst ppl say ery similar to caran dache but caran dach are ever so slightly creamier. Lyra are just a little less expensive) I chose them because I wanted a starter set and I liked the selection better than CD. I also got prima marketing warer soluble oil pastels (I've never used their watercolor paint) and OMG SO SO SO FUN. Seriously, you can blend them like oil pastels (it is a little harder but def bendable) and the rustic set has the cutest color selection. I even started using a bullet journal instead of a typical sketchbook bc I just wanted something challenging and motivating. They even have bujos specifically for watercolor but really anything 160 gsm or more will take a wash. I'm rambling. I just know the creative burnout and wanted to give you some fun ideas.

@@SarahBurnsStudio I'm a complete newb but its SO MUCH FUN! I don't do standard bujo shit. Like tracking whole days etc but I bet it would be great for you as a big youtuber. I just do a month to track important things like appointments and birthdays and then the rest is mostly a journal/art journal. I also use it to keep track of any spiritual paranormal or synchronistic things that happen to me on a weekly basis. But really, you can use it for anything.

Neocolors are like gouache in a stick, I love using them on toned and black paper: dissolving first layers and leaving the last more scribbly or adding details with pencils

I've a small collection of Neocolor II, plus the full set of Albrecht Durer. Love them. Even more interested in playing with wet nibs as you showed. They are clearly more versatile than I thought, lol. Great tip there ❤️

I am the BIGGEST fan of those Neocolors! Although I tend to use them dry. But they are my absolute fave. I hope you will love them too! I'm excited to see what you'll do with them

Covid and then bronchitis? Man, you're having a tough time. So lovely to watch. I've been hankering for some Albrecht Durer pencils, although I want the big chunky Magnus ones. Neocolor II crayons look like super fun. I've been doing building works around my house so no art for 8 weeks now. It makes me feel depleted, but I have the kind of brain that goes all in on whatever I'm doing and I just can't divide my attention in too many ways at once. Get well soon!

I use water-soluble graphite for tonal sketching, they are very easy and useful. they will more or less stay put if you want to color over in wet media later. And they don’t clog up any inking tools if you use them also 👍🏼

Hey Sarah. I bought the Faber Castelle “Gold Faber” line ( more budget friendly,and still very good lightfast). Steve Mitchell ( Mind of Watercolor), Did a side by side comparison a few years back, and said in his opinion, there was not that big of a difference. Besides the price tag. I’m going to have to go back and revisit that video, and see if he mentions colors. I know you are a fan of his. Just throwing it out there. I love the actual demonstrations and products you've shown and I hate to be critical but that weird crackling sound in the background was really horrible to listen to. The music was OK but the other sound overlaid on top was like trying to listen to nails on a blackboard sorry but it was so awful to listen to. I really like the products shown here though so it's a shame if the audio wrecks an otherwise great video.
