As a kid, I was stuck on this level and kept coming back for days. One day I get a knock at the door and its a guy selling video game magazine subscriptions. We discussed Zelda 64 and when I brought up the fact that I had been stuck on the Water Temple, he actually gave me solid advice and I beat it that very day. And bought a year's worth of EGM subscriptions. ;)

I don't think it has anything to do with the temple being hard or not, because I never found it thaaat hard, It just don't strike me as a great tune, unlike the ones from the other temples, I can remember all of them but this one.. It's kinda boring. Well, to each his own.

wwwwario Haha yes yes I also respect yours and is nice to see the vast point of views out there! Well, I gotta say when I saw this video in my suggestions I was like "What? What's the Water Temple tune? I can't remember.." and you see, I remember all the others, I guess I remember every song from this game (even the shop theme, which I find incredibly annoying xD ) but this one just vanished.. I guess my thing with this song is, I mean, think about the Forest one - omg outstanding, unforgettable; shadow - creepy, haunting, Spirit - just beautiful, so unique. Fire - This one is just top-notch, is haunting in a very special way with the Islamic Chant, all that controversy towards it just made it even better lol But this one.. thinking about it now I gotta say it does seems to match the temple, with the watery sounds, etc, but in comparison with the others it just sounds to simple to me... I try to love it but.. I just can't lol. Anyway, Koji Kondo is the King of VGM and we should all be thankful for his life! xD

@wareforcoin57808 жыл бұрын
I found the constant menu entering less terrible than the fact that I couldn't find a key in order to progress. When I first played the game, I suddenly was faced with the concept that I might have to worry about where I use my keys, because I was convinced there wasn't enough. I obviously found it, (it was in a room at the very bottom of the temple) but that anxiety that filled me when I thought I might have to lose hours of gameplay somehow and restart the temple was much worse than entering the menu screen a thousand times a minute.

It takes a very special person to understand the psychology of the water temple. As a child I was stuck for almost 7 months without progress and played PS1 games because I couldn't figure out once you raised the water level that you could use the boots to sink Link in the smaller room. It simply didn't occur to me and most printed guides were short and led you into the game up until Link becomes an adult. You wouldn't often have the internet on computers until 2002. So really most kids were relying on those printed guides. It taught you patience and to think by yourself. Nowadays you just open KZbin, scroll the time in the video up to where you're stuck and go on with your endeavors. Again this tune is mystical and explicitly tells you one thing: go take a break, or go read a guide. Because bro unless it's 2002 wait another 4 years to read the first available internet guides. Kids these days will never know how that felt. So many things are taken for granted these days...

I've been playing this game since 2002 and have not gotten tired of it yet! Out of ALL the zelda games I've played, Ocarina of time has the best themes and the Water Temple's music is really one-of-a-kind!!! It has mysterious features with the stringed instruments and the middle-eastern theme. The temple itself offers a glimpse into Eastern architecture and resembles many Asian features down to the coffered ceilings and artwork!! The replay value for this game is out of the atmosphere!!! It's a shame that Zoras' Domain does not unfreeze when you complete the ice level! Enjoy!!! And cheers!!!

Replaying Ocarina for the first time in years, I went into the Water Temple and the only three difficulties I had were: 1. the game being N64-y at me (Shell Blades need a very specific angle for the hookshot to work, and it kept not letting me do the instant spin attack) 2. I got a key and forgot which door was locked so I just had to go ahead and check three areas real quick 3. Morpha is the most broken boss I've ever seen in Zelda. The nucleus would ALWAYS either instantly jump back into the water or deal damage to me whenever I hookshot it. If I went near a tentacle *after* avoiding its initial attack, or even if it just decided to move in a certain way on the way back down, it would get me anyway. I used two fairies on Dark Link because I decided not to use tricks to beat him, and then I got two more fairies in the dungeon and used them on Morpha and thought even that wouldn't be enough, he has to have like 40 hearts. And you wanna know the craziest thing? In my last playthrough of this game, I was using a bad emulator... the pause screen would take more than 10 full seconds to appear. And I didn't mind it at all. Is this perhaps how it feels to have *patience?*

Add in the fact that the battle against Dark Link is here, the Atlantean-style bgm, and the rather interesting boss Morpheel - not to mention my love of the Zora Tunic (that blue looks awesome on Link!) - and you have one beautifully chaotic hellspawn of a dungeon that I can't help but love.

The only real black mark was the constant menuing to equip/remove the iron boots, and I think that has gotten blown way out of proportion.
@Jon42703 жыл бұрын
The menu slowness is the only thing that the designer actually apologized for, as far as I know. One thing I noticed though... The menu seemed to come up faster on my n64 than it ever did in any emulator I watched on KZbin. I'm wondering how many people have only played this emulated, and how much that might have affected the popular perception...
@FartsFromApplz3 жыл бұрын
Yeah as I kid it never occurred going into the menu to equip and remove boots to be a hassle. At the time it was just a cool feature to see link’s clothes change. Hell I’d just sit in the menu sometimes and look at songs and or items I collected lol, I miss that sense of wonder.

Seriously, my favorite temple/song from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I don't care what anyone says, this temple was amazing. I love the challenge, the theme of Greek temples reflecting a sort of Atlantis type dominion. The boss may have been lack-luster, but I loved the atmosphere the temple gave, especially with this track. Listening this for 10 hours is like a joy :)

This temple almost broke me as a kid I was so close to giving up man. I forced myself to keep going and going and not give up until one day I finally managed to do it. Felt absolutely amazing and it taught me to never give up even as a grown ass man today if I struggle in a game I think back to the water temple lol that is why OOT will forever be GOAT for me.

It's a beautiful temple, but was sort of annoying. HOWEVER, it's a JOKE when you play Master Quest. If you approach it assertively, you'll be done with it under twenty minutes. I think they made it EASIER on purpose to throw players off because they knew how people felt about it in the original version. The one in Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword ( although the water temple on SS is known as the Dragon Temple) drove me crazy for a bit though.

Hot take: I think this is one of, if not, the best dungeon in the game. Simply for how well designed the puzzles are, and how open temple feels. Was it hard? Yes of course. But at its core, this is a very well designed dungeon

This was not bad of a temple. I think it's more of an annoyance than being difficult. You gotta keep putting and taking off the damn iron boots every couple of minutes. It wouldn't be so annoying if you can quick slot it into a "C" button, but nope! The water temple from Majoras was fucking hell though. Stone Temple was also confusing.
@ZANBA_MYON10 жыл бұрын
I agree with Santiago concerning the water temple, but I also loved the great bay temple and the stone tower temple from majoras mask. Eventhough they were confusing, I still keep smiling when thinking of playing though these, the music and the atmosphere just made the experience perfect

That key in the room under the raising platform had me stuck for over a year. As frustrating (and tedious due to the Iron Boots) the Water Temple was, it’s the most well designed and complex temple in the game. I love it as an adult. It’s a shame they reduced the difficulty in the DS version. By having the Iron Boots being used as an item the eliminated the whole problem with pausing the game over and over. They shouldn’t have added the colors to the different paths. Even worse though is the camera zooming in on the opening when the platform rises with the water in the central room. That spoils the puzzle with that key by solving it for the player.

Koji kondo discovers and gives us a very skillful way of honoring our past antecedents (Mesopotamia, Persian, Akkadian, Egypt, Greece), without a doubt the mystique of the human being throughout history made us investigate the arts, the greatest of the virtues of our spirit, feel connected and grateful. This music is a strange but indulgent way to remind ourselves, who we went and where we will go.
