...good lord. While tying the snake to Lucifer the lightbringer is apocryphal and possibly the result of mixing up Satan the tempter and Lucifer and several other figures together, if we consider that it was the light that led those ancient primeval beings astray...suddenly it makes a shocking amount of sense.

A really interesting interpretation I'm getting from this game is that Adam and Eve were never beings that lived on land, but were actually aquatic-dwelling creatures. Eating from the fruit of knowledge resulted from them leaving the garden, which is actually meaning that they abandoned the paradise and ignorant bliss of the aquatic world to evolve and live on land. They learned so much, conquered the world, but at the cost of the purity of their being. The angel in the form of a squid isn't a an illusion, that's just what the actual angels are. They're aquatic, and this one is telling him that his contrary path to that of his forefather, Adam, will send him returning back to the ancient way of life back in the ocean, as the innocents once did before eating the forbidden fruit. All life began in the water, all life is the result of water. Water Womb World. Title's beginning to make a lot of sense now. FFS Yames, every game you make, I keep wishing it was longer!
@killerbriX7584 жыл бұрын
A very interesting idea, my take was that the developer was sort of bringing in two different ideas about the origin of life, on both humans and otherwise. The idea of confounding the story of Creationism from the bible with Adam and eden with the theory of evolution, such as the origin of life which was found in the ocean where species descended from one another into the organisms we know today. Very interesting regardless

At the end, it looks like he became one of the red “angel” creatures. His hands faded as he ate the coral. The bottom of the creatures looks entirely made of coral, and the Deathless Fish 2 is described as being 50% coral polyp. I think the red creatures are former explorers now “purified” by being recomposed with coral, and the eye seen at the end was God, the source of the coral, since womb of God implies that it is part of God, but not God itself. Eating the coral physically and psychologically merges the explorer with the hivemind nourished by God, an evolutionary return to the womb. Thanks for listening to my rambling.

@theloweffortchannel72114 жыл бұрын
From what I see, the coral IS god. The coral has neurons, which may very well be far powerful than a human brain, mentioned to be "hyper capable of generating a consciousness field". Judging by the previous game of Discover My Body, this game might be in the same universe, the first fish being subject to "laser vivisection", a technology we do not have at the moment. Discover my Body is set in the future, and the fungus is mentioned to have "crystalline, latticelike psychic receptors", confirming the existence of psychic abilities in certain species. The protag at the end probably was subject to mutation by "god" 's psychic abilities, presumably the generated "consciousness field" and became an aquatic protohuman, the original "sons of adam".

Ahhh, I love the symbolism so much! I'm not sure if this was the creator's intent, but that coral seems to be an allegory for the Fruit of Life, which is really neat! Also, the fact that the fish down here can't tell the difference between light and dark, kind of like how the Knowledge of the Tree of Good and Evil made humanity be able to tell them apart in a more metaphorical sense-- In this narritive, that could be literal! Another thing that struck me was how the main character describes feeling like they were once part of something bigger, like they'd been ripped out and left to float: almost like a fetus, really. Wouldn't be too far of a stretch considering the title of the game, and its "return to the womb" narritive. The yearning for a simpler, safer time. This is a really, really interesting take on Christian theology, and I hope to see more like it. But, yeah. This is really, really neat and I love it

My thoughts on the plot. Introduction: The Son of Adam is a theist who believes both in god and science, and is obsessed with finding the supposed birthplace of humanity, the Gaspar Zone. In order to achieve this, he built a futuristic base on the oceanic floor to conduct his research. First trip: Here he finds that all lifeforms in the Gaspar Zone are obviously acuatic, made of stone or metal, very long-lived and have some form of blindness, all but the Adamite, an ancestor of humanity which seems to have eyes. This may or may not be related to his 5% of ancestral corruption, implying that seeing and thus evolving into a more complex creature is in some way straying from the path of God. He also found some scuba glasses, implying that he’s not the first on the Gaspar Zone. Second trip: Here he meets with the Golden Angel, who has disabled the Son of Adam’s lights, further proving that God and his affiliated entities dislike it and the concept of seeing. His warning is actually quite straightforward. Telling the Son of Adam that if he leaves now, he’ll continue to be a human, but if he stays in the Gaspar Zone, he’s going to have to join God. Our protagonist refuses to leave and continues his research. Third trip: Here we find out that all the fish in the Gaspar Zone appear to have eaten Red Coral, an organism of unknown properties. Apparently, it is covered in human neurons, create hive-minded individuals, crash the lab’s examination machine and create alucinations. Fourth trip: The lights are off again, sing of divine entities nearby. However, these angels are much more stranger than the last one. Yet despite their appearance, they seem able to talk. They drive the Son of Adam mad and force him to retreat to his lab. There he convinces himself to be hungry and join God. This is probably what the first angel was warning him about on the second trip. Fifth (and last) trip: The Son of Adam is suffering from the same traits as the Gaspar Zone’s lifeforms, being able to breath underwater, having black sockets for eyes and a rocky, red skin. He eventually starts eating a lot of Red Coral, which seems to attract the Red Angels from before. They reveal him their full body, ending on a red eye. Conclusion: Considering the hive-minded powers of the Red Coral, what the Golden Angel said and the scuba glasses, it’s safe to assume that the Son of Adam joined the Red Angel’s collective consciousness in order to be able to live forever in the Gaspar Zone. The Red Angel is probably a union of all the previous divers that went there. Now wether this is something good or bad for the protagonist is hard to determine, but I would say that it is indeed good as the purpose of Christian Religion is to unite with god, just like the Son of Adam did, even if by a very unorthodox method.

So at the end, is the protagonist returning to the “womb” or something? What is the thing at the end? Is it the womb of humanity, flesh for flesh? Damn what is this?
@anubis198014 жыл бұрын
From what I understand, that glowing thing at the end is the 'womb' from which humanity and the angels were birthed aka 'God'. What it really is though is open to interpretation, it might be the sentient consciousness of the planet or an ancient extraterrestrial, anything goes.
@bardknight45384 жыл бұрын
My personal interpretation of the ending: The massive creature is NOT God, and the protag was simply tricked. Like Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit, the protag ate the coral, which could have also been forbidden in some way. The angel was most likely a legit one trying to steer the protag away from this potentially "false" god, to no avail. It could also be that his mind was simply unstable and, being alone in the depths for too long, his sanity slipped and he went out into the water without his gear, dying shortly thereafter and the rest of the ordeal was simply a dying dream.

While the games the developer makes are very clearly meant to be horrifying, they don't seem scary to me at all. The protagonists or focuses are men of science, well versed in the nature of minds and what will happen to them. They go out intentionally seeking some higher power or higher form of life, and know beforehand that they'll be irrevocably changed into some alien being. They can fully consent (and fully understand) with what happens, and agree to undergo the change. The net effect is comforting, strangely. It would be much more horrifying if the protagonists thought they knew what they were in for, started to object/run away when full realization hits them, and the thing they are changed into then enjoys the procedure, possibly to carry it out on unwilling others.
@QuantumWaltz4 жыл бұрын
I agree. Both _Discover My Body_ and now _Water Womb World_ are strangely serene to me. It's not that I would voluntarily choose to join a psychic fungal gestalt consciousness, nor would I throw myself wholeheartedly into the deeps to become an ascendant/regressed perfect human, but I can certainly understand both characters in their choices to do so. They both make informed decisions, and are aware that they cannot go back once they have begun their journey. It is their wholehearted willingness to be transformed, transfigured, that is in itself comforting, I suppose.
@LightBoltDash4 жыл бұрын
In my opinion it is scarier the way it is. Knowing full well what you set out to find is, and embrace it. Just like in discover my body
@doesthiswork19694 жыл бұрын
I feel like the horror isn’t meant to come from them being forcibly changed like other body horror works might, but instead that they do willingly let it occur. Discover My Body showed a society that willingly gave up all functions and sentience in exchange for perceivably infinite pleasure as they lost their faith in the real world. This game twists the idea of divinity by portraying closeness to god as straying from science and order and returning to a primitive, impulsive state.
@LordVader10944 жыл бұрын
I disagree. What makes this great is that they're Lovecraftian culty characters, being fully aware of what will happen. Much better than if they were normal.

Question, besides lovecratian what else would this type of fantasy or horror be called? Something that interprets god as some "other worldly horrific being", something mysterious yet really eerie and forbidden, the kind of entity that when one of its followers witnesses its "greatness"..they become twisted and not human like anymore? "When you see god you will witness glory" type of spooky shit. What would that be called and where I can find out more about it?
