Welcome to a new video from 2022 of my exotic garden here in Belgium. Once again I have selected the best photos from last year to be able to share with you all.
At the end of the video, my girlfriend poses near most of the palm trees to have a better impression.

Lovely garden, I hope this winter has not caused any damage as we had minus eight and minus nine in December.

Thank you. 🙏😊 yes, here we also had -6.5°C in December. No real heavy damage, just some leaf damage on some cycads and brahea edulis. Washingtonia and Dicksonia's have lost all their existing leaves but are otherwise perfectly fine. Hopefully no more severe frost...

I’m growing two Washingtonia Filibusta’s, two Chamaerops Humilis, one Trachy, a baby needle palm, two Archontophoenix Alexandrae , and one king cycad in a U.S. growing zone 5B/6A, they’re still covered right now, but they’ve done exceptionally well this winter.

That is really great in Zone 5B/6A. Well done.👍 Winter is slowly coming to an end here. In mid-March I will remove the protections here, as I do every year. I look forward to it again. Hopefully by then you will still have no damage.😊

You have THE most amazing tropical garden. I am absolutely blown away. You garden is guiding my own creation in Japan. We get -6C once a year and I struggle to protect them but will keep up. Thanks for the inspiration! Love the music.

Dag Dimi, een maand geleden al zoveel onbeschermd ???.....en al zoveel die al op gang is gekomen zoals bvba de boomvarens ????? Ongelooflijk 👍🏻

Hoe bedoel je juist een maand geleden al zoveel onbeschermd ? Elk jaar breek ik de hokken af rond half Maart. Afhankelijk van hoe de 14 daagse voorspellingen op dat moment dan zijn. De eventuele vorst dat dan nog zou kunnen komen is geen bedreiging meer voor mijn palmen in de tuin. Enkel gevoelig spul kan altijd nog snel ingewikkeld worden indien het toch nodig zou zijn. Vorig jaar (2022) was de lente vroeg en warm, dus alles kwam inderdaad al snel goed op gang. Vandaag (06 Maart) zie ik dat de 14 daagse voorspellingen nog steeds koud blijven, geen vorst maar nog steeds niet boven 10°C en snachts koud rond de 2 graden...Alles zal nu dus later op gang komen 🤷‍♂De hokken staan hier nu nog wel maar die worden komende weken eindelijk weer terug afgebroken. 🙂

your garden is beautiful!!! what are your maximum temperatures in summer? and what is the minimum temperature in winter? I also work in such a garden here in the Czech Republic, the area is 800 square meters, I am trying to unify the bitop, I chose palm trees from Madagascar and Indonesia, I also had Dicksonia antarctica, but we had a problem with them in the winter, they were attacked by mold, how palm trees are doing very well here, your garden is beautiful, I will definitely take some of your ideas, good luck David

Thank you very much David. 🙏☺ The average temperature in the summer here is about 25°C, occasionally we also have 30°C and a little more... Last year was a record year with temperatures very often around 35°C and as a record even once 40°C. 🥵That is very exceptional here, 25°C to 30°C is normal. I live in zone8b. We have very long and very wet winters, winter starts in November to March. Very often we have -5°C, occasionally up to -10°C and sometimes lower down to -15°C. The record here in my garden is -18°C, but that is very exceptional. Nice to hear that you can maintain such a large garden there with these beautiful plants. Danke für deine Antwort. Wie lange hast Du deinen Garten mit Palmen schon.Ich habe auch viele Palmen. Bin letztes Jahr umgezogen und habe jetzt 1000qm für meine Palmen. Mein alter Garten ist zu klein geworden. 😂

@@gunterschmid5981 Ich begann diese Leidenschaft im Jahr 2008. Die meisten Palmen in meinem Garten stehen seit mehr als 10 Jahren. Ich wünschte, ich hätte so viel Land wie deine 1000 Quadratmeter. 👍 Mein Garten ist nur 350 Quadratmeter groß. 😊🤷‍♂️

Denkst du es reicht eine butyagrus mit Vlies, einem vliessack und heizkabel zu schützen? Sie wächst ja sehr schnell, irgendwann ist das ja eigentlich die einzige Möglichkeit. Oder denkst du die butyagrus benötigt irgendwann keinen Schutz mehr? Liebe Grüße aus Berlin winterhärtezone 7b😅

Vliestücher und Heizkabel sind temporäre Schutzausrüstungen, die gegen mäßigen Frost ausreichen. Bei starkem und extremem Frost reicht dies nicht mehr aus. Auch ein Heizkabel ist nur ein lokaler Schutz, die Hitze ist sehr begrenzt. Für mich reicht das nicht aus, um eine Butyagrus (oder eine andere Palme) richtig zu schützen. Dennoch kommt es manchmal vor, dass ich diesen Schutz im Notfall anwende. Es ist also möglich, wenn alles gut geht und es nicht zu extrem wird. Einige Butyagrus wachsen tatsächlich sehr schnell, siehe mein Exemplar im Freiland. Es ist extrem schnell. Ich habe also fast das Problem, dass es zu groß wird. Leider ist es keine Option, es ungeschützt zu lassen. Es mag ein paar Mal gut funktionieren, aber irgendwann wird es in einem richtigen Winter sterben. Vliestücher und Heizkabel zum Schutz der wichtigsten Teile sind in der Tat der letzte Ausweg...🤷‍♂️ Ich gebe nicht so schnell auf, schauen Sie sich meinen Phoenix an, daher hoffe ich, dass ich meinen Butyagrus noch lange mit einem gut isolierten Käfig richtig schützen kann.👍🤞

I live in Zone 8b. -5°C is common here and down to -10°C occasionally. It has also been below -10°C several times, even -18°C once, but those are really exceptions.

@@SAP2017SAS No, it certainly would not have survived, but my Phoenix is of course always well protected and heated if necessary.
