Hi Maria hope all is well with you! I had a car accident so I haven't been watching KZbin much lately. I'm okay. I have bruising and soft tissue damage which will take time to heal. Anyway I wanted you to know that I think this is one of my favorite paintings of yours. This kitty looks a lot like my cat Murphy. I met my husband because of him. I adopted him at the shelter my husband worked at. Sadly, I lost Murph about 3 years ago. He lived a long and happy life with us. He was 16. Maria you are so sweet and kind to wish me well. I showed my husband this painting just now and he said the same thing...it looks like our kitty Murphy. We got a new kitty 2 years ago now, his name is Maxwell! Maxy for short. He has the same fun personality that Murphy had. He comes when I call him and plays with paper. Murphy would play fetch with me. I'd throw a piece of paper down the hall and Murphy would bring it back to me. When we bought our home and moved my couch, we found all the little furry mice toys in a pile where Murphy had hid them!

This is beautiful. Many artists stick with a particular subject, like flowers or landscapes, but you paint everything. Just curious but is there any subject you find too difficult to paint?

Hi Yvonne thank you so much :) You know it's a hard question.. cuz I have painted pretty much everything by now, cats, dogs, most animals... seascapes, waves, stars, boats, buildings, people, flowers, night scenes, portraits, eyes, lips,, babies, ears... planets, moon, landscapes... one thing I hard difficult to paint is probably abstracts because I don't have an imagination for abstracts lol

I have one question for you i panit my town my beautiful town and it is very nice but looks like i draw with colour pencils and i just dont know how to look like i really paint with watercolors it looks awesome but not watercolors can you help me maria

Hi, I think the best way to paint town/architectural buildings, city etc is with more of a loose style.. not to focus too much on details or at least once you have your first "loose layers in". Pre-wet your paper first and start adding colors, wait until dry, start adding another very light wash of colors :)

Beautiful work. What is your reasoning for using Payne's Grey instead of mixing grey's from other colors? Is it just because it's easier/faster? I usually watch your videos in the evenings and I'm lucky to get through them without falling asleep, the music you have playing is really relaxing and I find my eyes closing, I really have to fight to stay awake. lol I love painting animals, would you kindly do a up close face of a dog, like a border collie or Australian Shepherd and a full body of a Calico cat? I would love to see your rendering of those. Thank you in advance.

Hi Candy, Thank you so much! to answer your question... I just like the shade of Payne's Gray. I just recently painted a dog portrait: kzbin.info you just have to scroll down thru couple videos but I posted it not too long ago. I also already painted a full body cat, the video is on my channel. I have painted many many many other animals. I have over 300 watercolor videos on my channel by now. beautiful painting............I never used olive green in watercolors, and it's interesting to see that color..........the details of the cat's face are amazing and with all the dark and mid tones finely painted in and some of the fur softened around the face, the white of the paper is so realistic as looking like the cat's fur...........how did you get the proportions right when you did the detailed pencil sketch, while using the photo reference........ie measurements, etc?...........I love animal paintings and find the watercolors hard enough......but probably the thing that I find the hardest, is to get my proportions right when doing the sketch............I think that's probably my biggest hurdle, as if the proportions of the facial features aren't right in the pencil sketch, the whole painting is not going to work........any information that you have about doing the pencil sketch from the reference photo would be appreciated..............I'm taking your Ragdoll teachable class and tried to paint my own cat from what I learned........it wasn't satisfactory, but hopefully, if I keep working on this, I'll eventually improve...........thanks for the video........you are truly an amazingly gifted artist!

Hi, thank you so much for your kind words, this is actually one of my first cats painted ever.. one of the few back when I first started. It really all comes with practice especially freehand sketching - btw I am planning to make a separate class on teachable about freehand sketching😍, but what comes down to it is referring to different points in a face, eye to eye, the beginning of the nose to the eye and you measure it with your own eyes then let's say using a brush, the handle of a brush to press next to the corner of the eye and see where it ends comparing to certain spots and areas on a face, if the corner of the eye let's say ends where's the corner of a mouth is but with an angle and creating visual triangles etc☺️☺️🐈
