Watercolor Gel Printing

I love this video, very inspiring and so many good ways to use watercolour on the gel plate! I haven't really used my watercolours since I got my first gel plate a couple of years ago, now you opened new opportunities for them, thank you so much! I live in Sweden and might not be able to find the same papers and colors you use, but you make me want to explore and experiment with what I have ❤🌿

Absolutely! You asked about a silver ink - do you mean what Karen is showing around the 26:43 mark? That's the Schmincke Aqua Fix that is alike an acrylic medium for watercolor. Hope this helps!

We're so glad you love the idea! We can't guarantee your artwork will still be archivable because we don't what's in the soap. Although there is very little added, the addition of soap may change the PH in the watercolor or paper.

Omg I’ve been struggling with the idea of making prints with acrylics cause I’m a watercolor kinda gal… and just found this! I’m in love! One quick question, though: I live in Brazil and it’s just impossible to find that kind of paper here. Importing comes out ridiculously expensive. Just wondering if I could use regular paper and what kind that would be… Thanks in advance ❤

The washi paper is extra absorbent so it soaks up the watercolor beautifully but you can use watercolor paper or mixed media paper for this technique or basically any paper that you would use for gel printing.

Mineral Paper is a special paper made of calcium carbonate - there is no wood pulp in it at all, so we call it "tree-free"! It has a unique eggshell texture and is less absorbent than regular copy paper. I’m sorry if you answered this question already, if I missed it. But this has been great. My one question is when you go to put these cut outs onto a collage will the mat medium smear the watercolor?

Hi, great question! The watercolor usually doesn't smear unless it's applied heavily and there is pigment sitting on top of the paper. To ensure no smearing I would suggest spraying the paper with a workable fixative.

Yes it does! The higher end papers will produce the nicest results, but Hosho paper will also yield beautiful results! Hi! Karen uses Torinoko paper (the "rice paper" she uses for the initial gel prints; item number 6T) and uses Mineral Paper later in the video (JMP series).
