How everything comes together with the final wash is incredible and a lesson: never give up on your painting before you added all your layers. You never know if it will turn out great in the end. A lot of time a final glaze can reveal or fix values or tones.

I love night scenes, and low-keyed scenes, dark, and twilight mysterious scenes but also love watercolor, so I def need to try this. You showed me the path!

Thank you for sharing the principles, processes, and practices of making night paintings. I feel now that I don’t need to “reinvent the wheel” but can begin “rolling down” a new dark street that you’ve “illuminated” on my watercolor journey. Aloha from Honolulu.

Eric you did a wonderful demo of painting a night scene in watercolor. I found it to be almost miraculous how the numerous layers end up creating the images, mood, and lighting as observed in the photographs. Thank you for this lesson. I will try to do a small night scene but I think I need to watch the video a few more times. Your final painting was beautiful...it conveyed the kind of feeling I've had when going for a walk on a still winter's eve. So beautiful.

I was really struggling with illumination and how to paint it with watercolors. I actually wound up asking around on Reddit, and someone linked your video. I found it incredibly informative and helped bridge the knowledge gap I was looking for.

Extremely useful...however I was planning to paint a cafeteria at night below my building...with glass doors and multiple lights indoors...is it good to do in oils or watercolours?

In general I'll recommend do it with oil. I only have watercolor that's why I use it :)
