Tom Lynch was the first watercolor artist that caught my eye and I was SO hooked. I had a VHS tape (yes, that long ago) set that someone gave me and I watched him over and over. Then I found a book by Charles Reid and I loved that too. Very different styles but they were really my intro. So years later I got some supplies and some beginner books. Then found out they made it LOOK easy! Still, watercolor stirs my soul in the best way, even though I stink at it lol. Lindsay this painting is beautiful!!!

Hullo Lindsay, I have used stretcher-bars for stretching my watercolor paper since college, this was how our instructor taught us. It eliminates the problem of tape peel! For younger people who are not familiar with stretching their watercolor paper. Most people who wanted to stretch their paper soaked it and then taped the edges down onto a wood sheet, also drawing boards were used too! Transportation of paintings in progress is a problem for many people. Jerry’s Artarama has a recent product that stretches watercolor papers onto stretcher-bars the SOHO Brand is one of their store brands and they are very reasonably priced. Not as cheap as doing it yourself but nothing is, is it? Thank you for sharing this lovely painting with us and for simply being excited about offering us a new surface to work with! Please take care, be safe and stay healthy!

Your excited inspiration is so contagious..Thank you! For those who prefer panels to wrapped canvas ( I'm 75 with hand wobbling, so panels give me stability over wrapped canvas and I work big), Jerry's Artarama has two panel products mounted to MDF board ( Not cardboard). " New York Central" with plate smooth portrait finish and "Yes! All media panels "with extra fine watercolor surface for use with all water based media, in many sizes. They are primed cotton, but I apply black Art Spectrum colour fix for my dramatic black surfaces and then multimedia with acrylic ink, gouache, watercolor pencils, and acrylic paint. And cold wax to avoid glass glare. Have never had any warping with the MDF board backing and the panels are a nice snug fit in a frame when they replace the backing board or cardboard that an empty frame comes with. Worth a look-see for anyone who uses panels and the NYC panels are on sale through today Jan 26 at Jerry's. Thanks again Lindsay for all your inspiration. 💖🙏

I’ve never heard of watercolor canvas before, this is so cool! Also I would DEFINITELY like to see an expressive watercolor portrait, I primarily do portraits , but I use acrylic or gouache, I love watercolor but struggle with it for portraiture because you can’t layer up quite as much as my other mediums. (Edited to add) WOW I’m really impressed with this canvas and I think I will have to get some to try out, the ease of lifting is SO nice and I think that would help me be able to layer the way I like to without ending up with mud.

I know this because of watching a very old video of yours where you used one of the pads, and I looked it up. I notice they have a prep suggestion to wipe it down with a very wet rag 10 min before using. But, considering your experience, I wouldn't bother to try them. I am excited to paint on that other Yes! Great Vid Lindsay! I enjoyed watching this pic come to life! I was very interested in the properties of the Phoenix canvas as I have been painting on Watercolor Canvas for some time now - well it’s an all media canvas that works well for watercolor. It. Lifts very well, and will also take a wet in wet wash well, and you can layer also but it does require some care. I tend to use staining colors to make sure the washes stick, and on top layers I use squirrel, goat or other softest hairs. I think I will order some Phoenix Canvas panels if they have them or small canvas’s to try out! Did you find these issues as well? I find the benefits out-way it faults, but paint on paper in between to keep things interesting. My other fav is Clayboard. Look forward to next vids (esp Sat Chat which i watch every wk) It feels good to hear other watercolor artists talk about their week as i can relate well to similar cares & joys that non-artists do not comprehend. Thanks Lindsay! SARA

@mjpete2713 сағат бұрын
Hullo, if you don’t frame your watercolors under UV glass spray it with a UV protective spray or wax it. I use Dorlands Wax to protect my watercolor paintings when I’m not sure about how a customer or client is going to treat my art. I always recommend they frame it under museum glass. This is an expensive choice and I have seen many of my artworks not framed well. Once it leaves your hands you simply have no control. If you are worried protecting your art is up to you. Dorlands Wax goes a long way and is not the best (UV Museum Glass is) but it does provide some protection. Good Luck!
