I've probably seen this video 8 to 10 times over the years and it still gives me immense pleasure watching you paint Patrick. Your painting channel is sorely missed.

Thanks Patrick. I did go outdoors to paint this summer. I made a small travel kit and when I took the grandkids to the beach I just grabbed it and put it in the beach tote. Not a single soul asked to see or looked over my shoulder, even when exchanging pleasantries. I must have a mean face when I'm concentrating. Lol. Honestly it was the happiest time !

In my experiences of outdoor paintings people are for some reason don't approach much but what a great joy it is when those people that do and engage with you while in the painting process, maybe I look mean too lol 👍

Fantastic just what I love to hear. Mostly people do just past by occasionally people stop. I’m pleased you found it rewarding. It’s so satisfying to paint on location and then review your work at home. It’s great for the mind.

@@PatrickLeyGreaves So right you are. I thought I'm not experienced enough. Under two years still of learning to paint. First outing was disaster but each time it got better , I observe better, take my time, take some pics, get a sketch and first wash down at least, nothing complicated and can finish at home if need be. It's my favorite painting time which may be odd since it poses real challenges. Even so, its zen to me. Take care.

It looks like he is still posting goods for sale on his EBay account. Nothing related to paintings though. :). It is good to take breaks from painting. I did and it helped clear my head.

Awesome painting Patrick! I love how you made such a lively foreground with the sky colors harmonizing so well. I ventured out for my first Plein Air experience this morning at a local park. A half dozen people gathered around me not too long after I started painting and were very encouraging. I found PA painting to be a challenging yet fabulous experience. So many professional artists have said they vastly began to improve as an artist when they began to paint outdoors. I plan to keep it up! I’m looking forward to your next video! Thanks so much for sharing.

Fantastic comment Janice. It’s absolutely right you will learn so much from painting on location. It takes effort to organise yourself to go outside to paint but it’s well worth thateffort , as you’ve found out. Thanks for sharing your experience 😀

And actually it’s a beautiful palette of colours and you made such a wonderful artistic interpretation of what you saw Patrick, you are so right about being outside painting I feel the same but I’m afraid for some reason I keep procrastinating :( ......but that’s another story , thank you for inspiring us 🙏🎨

Thanks Anthea for your comment. It was a lovely painting session and it’s great to have the video as a memory. I understand what your saying about taking the first step to going out and painting. All I can say is keep what you need to take to a minimum just essential only. Plan where your going to go and what your going to paint. Something that is familiar to start with is helpful. Most of all just enjoy your time and don’t worry about the finished painting . Just keep it simple. I hope you give it a try 😀

Hello Mr. Ley-Greaves. I have been in touch with Jackson's art supply in London. I have bought supplies from there since i found them. I sent them a suggestion that they should do a guided tour thru their shop with a youtuber. One for water color, one for oils etc. They seemed to think it was an idea worth considering. Teoh , a youtubber from Singapore, does this often and it gets many views. I think it would be a winner for both the store and for your viewers. Especially with the covid 19 and staying out of public. I thought of you immediately. Not only are you in England but a well spoken ,well versed teacher. I then remembered and rewatched your interview video with leron, one of my faves. I think you would be just the person. Get in touch with Jackson's,...tell them Marjorie , a customer, sent you as you were the first name to come to my mind. I would have loved to shop at their store but it is no longer possible...medical problems, but doesn't prevent me from buying more paint, brushes, paper....etc. hope to hear that they do it soon and I will keep watching.....thank you for your videos...what I need for inspiration, especially when I can't get out of bed.

We’ve just come back from coast Patrick and it was so lovely sitting on the beach painting waves, rocks and sand. It didn’t matter that paintings didn’t turn out so well, but the experience is worth it. (Spring time here). I loved your sky.

Gosh Patrick, you did a great job of what was, as you said, 'nothing much to see'. I wondered how you would tackle that expanse of just pebbles. Then, of course, it's all in the inner eye, as I like to call it. I've very rarely done plein air painting for all the reasons you gave, but I can see the attraction. Btw, just for curiosity, Hearst castle rings a bell. Where is it (on the south coast I presume) exactly ?

Great video Patrick, what's ur set up for filming outdoors? Is it a tripod and camera that you use?
@PatrickLeyGreaves5 жыл бұрын
Yes I have a smaller tripod and a canon g7x mk2 which I use outside. Both are quite small and light weight. I have a decent pack pack so it everything fits leaving my hands free when walking. I will include the kit in video so you can get a better idea.

I’m sorry about that. I try and hold it as steady as I can. If it’s a situation where I can use a tripod I do but not always possible.
