This is the second of your shows I've watched, and love it as much as the one I watched beforehand (The Eastern Dark: thankyou Geoff Milne and Bill Gibson for alerting me!) It's always wonderful to hear people enthusing about bands I love and wrote about in their early days - and how much those bands inspired (haha some people might say corrupted!) their lives. In the days before the interweb, those of us writing on RAM, Juke, B-Side (and later on mags like Hot Metal) only had mail, the occasional phone call or meet ups at gigs with readers to gauge if anyone was interested in or actually reading what we wrote! And there is a link between the honourable tradition of your boyhood band covering songs by their Waterfront musical heroes The Hard-Ons - and the Eastern Dark of whom you just covered. The ED used to every gig cover (in chronological order) a song by THEIR musical heroes: The Ramones! Keep up the great work, Jodi (AKA J.J.Adams)👍

I was four in '86 when this album was released. It's staggering that Blackie formed the Hard Ons at 13 years old. Now Blackie and me talk a LOT about world music and he always messages me. I have personally-signed stuff. The most humble amazing human being. I love them loads. They're the coolest. They're the embodiment of punk.

Indeed he is, indeed they are. Best Aussie punk band ever!

I remember walking in to the BDO '94 on the GC and the Hard-Ons had just started their set. We were straight into the pit, and it'd been raining a day or two earlier so it quickly became a muddy mess. My mate lost his Chuck Taylor and spent the rest of the day wearing one shoe

Hahahahaha one shoe! 😂 what a bummer! But I’m sure that set has remained a great memory for both of ya. Thanks for sharing your story and watching. Cheers!

Hard-ons have made some cool records but that ones my favourite. I got when it came out and saw them live a tonne of times in the late 80s. The late 80s was a magical time for the Sydney live music scene. My favourites to see regularly were Lime Spiders, Rocks, Trilobites, Happy Hate Me Nots, Asylum, Psychotic Turnbuckles, Celibate Rifles, Spunkbubbles and obviously Hard-ons. So good.

Every single band on your list there is freakin’ amazing and really details just how diverse and incredible Sydney’s music scene was at that time. What an incredible era of music!!!!

It sure was a great time to be a punter - or a journalist, as I was. Wrote about many of the bands you mentioned and also supported them by if needed working on the door at their gigs or (if interstate) giving them a home away from home (thank god for a long-term inner city rental house with a tiled downstairs rumpus room that could - and did - comfortably fit many touring musos!)

I have the grey version i picked up at dixons recycled records in dandenong a long time ago. It's still in mint condition but sadly didn't have the comic 😢 Ray sent me a copy of the dateless dudes club comic a few years ago 👍

@@chloedog47that’s rad! Good ol Ray is a lovely fella. It surprises me he still had extra copies of that comic after all these years. Very cool.

Yeah he's a top bloke Ray I love him, when they played there 25th anniversary show at the Tote in Melbourne they also played a show with nunchukka superfly during the day. I was chatting to Ray and he asked me if I was going to the show that night I told him it's sold out and we didn't have tickets he said don't worry about that and quickly produced two tickets and sold us for $10 each. I still have the ticket and the pay attention collectors scum cd they gave away at the shows all signed 👍
