I'd imagine it'd have to be made of metal, and depending on where the turbine for driving the fan was placed, there'd be major issues with sonic booms happening at the edges of the fan blades, assuming it didn't just fly apart. I'd imagine it'd produce a stupid amount of thrust before it broke apart, though.

As mentioned before, it needs a gear reduction instead of being 1:1. Some hemispherical paddles on the input would take advantage of all the force of the jet. Also, a series of gears is a very inefficient way to transport power at a distance. There are more losses with this configuration than let's say, a belt, chain, etc. Hope this helps!

Connect the high pressure output to a suitable pressure wash hose and gun (with the trigger locked open so as not to harm the pump) and try to pressure wash something really greasy and funky with 60,000 psi and a 15° wash nozzle.

A interesting demonstration of a crude water powered sawmill that has been done many times over the years. For small high speed water jets the turbine design has evolved onto a Pelton wheel so that should have been the starting point here. Leaving the centrifugal clutch on the chainsaw drive would have allowed the turbine to get started without the chain resistance. Better bearings mounting design may save their life one day, a gear coming loose and bouncing off some surface could spoil their day totally.

You should read shoot this video, using a single Gear Drive as you did at the end, except have that gear built with small paddles so the water jet catches them more efficiently. This should ramp things up even more, making your homemade waterjet chainsaw that much more efficient. Because, we all know you want to carry this around to a work site.
