Waterman's Ideal Numbering System! 1890 to 1930

I finally got that bug out of my system and I am back to making videos! This one was INSANE! I actually spent a couple of days trying to figure out how to go about teaching this system. But what usually works best for me is to just hit record and let whatever pops into my head flow out!
The numbering system was fairly simple until about 1903. Then it got pretty complicated up to 1917 which is when they simplified it. By the early 1930's the old system was outdated and the marketing team took over to come up with FLASHY new names for their pens. That's where I stop caring about them!

This is one of the best videos to make understand the Waterman's collections. I am collecting vintages pens and have a small collections of Vintage Waterman's. My best favourite is NO7 and NO5 pens. with Keywhole nibs. Those nibs are amazing From your video I can see how The Waterman's had Logically introduced their pens. Still to own such a collection you must have a good time and investments.Are you thinking of doing some CLC and polishing to to give a little life back to them??? I always do it to my pens what ever age they belongs to. But I do believe that is some thing personal . Thank you for this video.

This was an amazing video, especially since you included the legendary Waterman 20! There are not a lot of videos about the Waterman 20. A video idea would be to do a size comparison with oversized pens with the Waterman 20 (Montblanc 149/Jinhao, Pelikan M1000, etc). Subscribed. :)

Awesome video! Have you done a video on the Waterman's Ideal nibs? Or can you point me to a reference? Trying to understand a F22 nib!

I will definitely be doing a nibs video in the future though I’m not sure I’ve heard of an F22

Great logical numbering system, so you know what to expect. Sure, it did get a bit awkward, with halves and letters, but not too bad. And then, they just drove a coach and horses through it! Must have been very confusing for regular customers. Thanks for a very clear explanation, Craig.

Do you like any modern day Waterman pens?

Nope! If it goes beyond about 1935, not really. I think the only modern pen I really like is the Lamy 2000 but that hasn't been used in like 4 months. All of these except for the Rotary International pen can be filled and write!

Very nice collection. I’m so jealous. My first fountain pens were Waterman Phileas and then Charleston. After more than 25 years I am still using them….
