Welcome to Site Inspections, the KZbin channel dedicated to showcasing building inspections for homes. In this video, we'll be taking a closer look at a waterproofing inspection that we conducted on a property.
We had previously visited the property and discovered non-compliant works. In this inspection, we returned to see if the property owner had attempted to rectify the issues.
Join us as we explore what to look out for when building your new home and why it's essential to book in a waterproofing inspection. As you'll see in this video, rectifying waterproofing issues can be costly if not addressed early on.
Our expert inspector, also known as the TikTok Inspector, will guide you through the inspection process and highlight some of the most common issues that can arise.

the pin holes in the waterproofing is from them trying to do 1 thick coat instead of 2-3 normal coats....the waterproofing shrinks a little when it dries....a good water proofer will use 12mm poly, as well as the membrane, using folds in corners not cuts. im thinking of starting a waterproofing business soon, maybe not soon enough.

Imagine having years of experience doing the same job EVERY DAY and being SO BAD at it. Then not only KEEPING YOUR JOB but no doubt, also getting PAY RISES!!! In most industries, you would LOSE your job VERY QUICKLY, but in the building industry, it seems to be a BADGE OF HONOUR to be USELESS at your job. Just keep JUICING the client to the EXTREME!!

What is common in nz is we put in a stainless steel shower tray in and then tile over it so even if the tiles leak the water won't ever leave the shower area

I demolished an old bathroom in our house and it had a Copper tray under the tiled shower base. It’s sad to see new bathrooms “waterproofing” done so poorly these days in comparison to the one I removed from the 1960. Even the best smear on waterproofing is nothing compared to a copper or stainless steel tray.

@@stjepanovicsful We also pulled out a copper basin with a fibreglass install over the top and tile over that. I guarantee you have never seen worse wood rot/mould than what was underneath all of that ‘water proofing’.

Watching your videos and reading over the standards I feel more across waterproof requirement standards than seemingly quite a number doing jobs in the trade. When doing ones own bathroom it instills more confidence doing it slowly and carefully to the requirements (and beyond), in combo with selecting the appropriate products and compatibility, that DIY waterproofing isn't a risky option. It really isn't rocket science just requires proper processes in all the details.

Hi mate , as a tradesman it's good to see you point these things out , may I say that by playing your little voice recorder it sort of plays down the seriousness of the issue and takes away from the professional inspection .

G'day, Love your channel, man. Q. Is silicone used the day before you membrane to create the 12mm transition in the corner or is it all membrane slapped on. Q. The pin holes that are forming is this caused by the membranin being applied too thick. Q. Would it be better to apply the membrane with two coats over consecutive days to avoid pin holes. ✌️ Peace.

6:45 Correct me if I am wrong but I think, 150mm above Finished floor level is good practice but not the min. compliant height. Correct should be the upturn height which usually 60-70mm above finished floor level, unless it’s on a balcony edge wall where it should be turned up and terminated into the drip groove(usually).
@facefart187

Looking at this I just was wondering how do you tile up to a 12mm cove, Like where it buts up to the cavity sliding door where this is no skirt tile? Surly you can keep the tile back 12mm from the edge?
@jonprivate3539
@jonprivate3539 Жыл бұрын
Think of the 12mm of sealant as a concave face. It doesn't follow a straight line like his gauge. When you then factor in an approx 6mm bed of tile glue the tile will sit almost on the wall face.

@@jonprivate3539correct. I also round the sharp edges off the back of the tiles whenever they need to come close to the waterproofing.

If a second story balcony waterproofing has been passed with in-adequate falls and bowing of substrate sheets creating pooling of laid substrate (stick-down tiles) ( no bedding ) , who is liable for the repair once the job has been complete/tiled,?

How was this done in the past when bathrooms were made to last decades? These modern waterproofing techniques look overly complicated and difficult to get right, as they require a lot of fiddly, time consuming detail work. Even if they are done correctly, how long do they last?
@stjepanovicsful
@stjepanovicsful 10 ай бұрын
Not as long as the copper tray I pulled out of my 1960 bathroom. I agree these modem waterproofing membranes are are cheap, fiddly and probably not very durable.
@malcolmcooke2024
@malcolmcooke2024 Күн бұрын
The water proofing is really easy to get right use the wide tape cover all the coins first overlap the tape then do first coat wait a day or more do second coat and check thickness and do a third if requires. The floor tiles need to be laid on solid adhesive with no air gap underneath and you will never get any water issues especially if the bathroom floor is all sloped to a floor drain properly as well.

The problem starts with the builder paying tilers low rates , then the tiler thinks lets skimp on the glue so he goes and uses a 10mm trowel on 600× 600 tiles and there we have the problem

Being in the waterproofing/ceramic tiling game for over 30 years , retired now why would they not tape every corner, it’s not hard, let it dry for 24hrs then another coat. That could not of been done by a professional or someone who takes pride in there work. I bet they didn’t prime the surface either.
