Hi... Yesterday, I had to put down my beloved cat. He wasn't old, not at all, he still hadn't reached 4 years of age...but since I adopted him, back up to the hospital december of 2019, with my ex, he had been ill...once, it was his stomach...once, the duodenus...every time, it was something that took away his appetite and left him so small and thin, a bundle of black fur and bones, and his two giant green eyes...then, the last one, was a degenerative kidney desease... I had to call back my ex, because I am many things but not a bloody bastard, and we both loved him...he had been in a veterinary clinic for a week, then came back home, I've even learned how to do undercutaneus shots on a cat because he needed them for his therapy...but then it was all too much...the kidneys weren't working any more, and their toxins in such a small body were giving him neurological symptoms...it was time to let him go... maybe it was even too late...

This is very cool actually... I was always scared of Näcken (swedish name) as a kid because we lived close to a lake. And when I was older I read about another water spirit Bäckahästen (river horse basically), and it said that other names for it were Näcken or Näckahästen and went onto say that some people believe it is just another shape Näcken takes and that confused tf outta me cuz the version of Näcken I was familiar with was just a handsome naked dude (potentially with horns, hooves or a tail) who sat in a river or lake at dusk and played a string instrument to lure you into the water. And I didn't see how that connected with a grey horse hanging out by a lake or river that would get as long as it needed to to fit everyone there and then dart into the water. But now I get it! It's very cool. I've always liked norse mythology and legends. It's very fascinating, especially the regional differences.

Okay, you got me in trouble and my phone taken away. You started saying "Nykr" over and over,... my best friend is Black and she yelled from across the room: "What the hell are you listening to?!?!" I tried my best to explain, but then she came over and started watching. Then she told me to go away and I can't have my phone back. She gave it back when she was done with the video and grabed one of my Norse Mythology books. I think we have another one. When I asked what she was doing she said: Worry about yourself, you almost got a beat down." She was joking, but thank you for my close call with death. I will make the appropriate offerings and recite some chants to give thanks. Also, I am sorry to hear about your home. It seems that we all go through a personal Ragnarok, and are forced to rebuild our lives to a degree. Well wishes to you, and thank you, as always.

Probably not. Unless the entity can temporarily change its sex, the way Loki briefly did. But the Scandinavian water entities like näcken and strömkarl are invariably depicted as males. If any females of those species exist, they don't show themselves to humans.

I have a book that likens the Nykkr to the Scottish Kelpie. They are both water horses that you cannot ride. The Kelpie will eat you if you ride it, after enticing you to ride it. It will take you into the water and only your kidneys wash up on the bank later.
