TIP: be carful not to over cook in the oven if you've used a plastic primer, as it can burn and tinge yellow a bit. Also, it seems possible to apply these without using terps.

This looks like a great product, but unfortunately seems that the second drying in an oven makes it so it could not be used in applications such as styrene model kits. Is there another work-around that avoid the second longer drying, that would allow this to work on plastic model kits?

Gentle hand wash is OK but not dish washer safe. This is 'Decorative' product and works with normal laser printers and solvent printers.

When I use a hairdryer the decal just dries out and lifts straight off with the film. How long should a hairdryer be used for to make this work? Can you do a video using a hairdryer on plastic? And how long to cool for before lifting off the film?

Hair-dryer is not good, you have to apply heat of 200C for 5 to 10 minutes depending on your item. Heat gun or oven should be used.

It is very hard to tell you exact time without having seen your item. There are so many factors to consider such as hair-dryer model, thickness of the plastic and so on which effect heating time and temperature. You need to exercise heating temperature and time until you fine the optimum setup. Raise temperature and heat for longer time until you see the decal film turns yellow.

@@drdecalmrhyde1799 No hairdryer goes hot enough, it needs to be 150 degrees +. I had to buy a heat gun (important to keep it under 200 degrees for abs plastic, so buying the correct heat gun is important) and it works. Also important to leave it to completely cool before removing the film. The instructions should not mention hairdryers as it's just not possible.

I'm sorry the name is pronounced "DEE-CAL" papers ... they have been around before I was born in 1949 ... just saying as this is over 6 years old. Many years ago in the 50's we used "gum glue paper" sprayed with 6-8 coats of lacquer for the base, wet sand and then hand do the lettering or art work. Then we used gelatin sizing to float it onto the base and seal with a clear coat of lacquer or spar varnish. Old Australian glass Beer Ad pub signs were done that way. ... sadly a lost art these days.

Sorry for the late reply. I'm with you, film free decal paper is not the right choice for keyboard. I'd recommend 'Rub On Decal Paper' with white colour option (if the colour of your keyboad is white, go for clear).

Hi everyone, can I get some help? :/ I am having massive printing issues. My printer leaves scratch marks all the time and sometimes the print is totally unusable. My printer back feed uses wheels that make contact with the ink on the paper and leave marks, and my front feed keeps bumping into curved or elevated surfaces on the paper, scratching the ink. Hi, what kind of decal paper is this? I have a water slide one but for inkjet printers. You can't really peal that coating layer and you actually place the decal oposite to the way you show. How comes? How is the laser one difference? What does film free mean? I like the fact you can't really see the edges on this. Hi, the film free decal paper leaves only the toner when you peel off the decal film. However it is decorative product and not scratch free. You can make it stronger by applying clear polyurethane spray coat but still won't be dishwasher safe, gentle hand wash is OK. It is not scratch free but can be stronger by applying polyurethane spray.

You don't need a glue, the plastic primer is 'nice to do' step, not 'must do'. You can use the film free decal paper for sewing machines with bright colour. If the colour is dark or black, you will have to use OKI white toner printer (i.e. OKI7411WT).

That step is removing the decal film so that only toner left on the plate. Plastic primer should be available at your local hardware shops and paint shops. However, it is 'nice to have', not 'must have'.

It basically melts down solid ink cyan, magenta, yellow and black cubes (somewhat like a crayon in their form) then sprays the liquified inks onto a print drum at the same resolution as most color laser printers) that then transfer it to the paper. It's basically like a laser printer, but doesn't use traditional toner, but melted micro dots of waxy ink dye.
