I watched a couple of quick youtube clips regarding this question. They said to eliminate the spark you would have to attach a resistor to your last connection. So in a nutshell it will spark either way you connect the terminals from a battery to an inverter; unless you use a resistor on the 4th/last connection.

Hi Skeet. Hope things are going well for you. Just curious as to why you connected the ground/negative 1st & the positive 2nd when connecting the battery to the inverter? Doing this in reverse would minimize or eliminate the spark & possible save a potential fire in certain conditions. Have a great day! Cheers!! Illinois
