His mistake was about that specific arrangement of his was such that he didn't though about consequenses in advance. He poured his soul trying to make arrangement as close and as good as possible no matter what technical difficulties it have (he wanted to challenge himself with that one). But he didn't expected that this one arrangement of his will become a quite literally an icon of whole piano anime covers, and MANY people will ask him to play that one particular arrangement every single time he gives concert of some choise). But that cover is so technically difficult, that it lands hard restriction on Animenz itself, and made him constantly practice that cover to be even play that as fan asked. And it takes a plenty of time and resources. Not to say there are parts when even with a lot of practice, consistency with which he can play parts of it is far from perfect, so he always have a risk of messing up. That's why he wrote easier arrangement (sounds less in my taste compared to this iconic one), just to have easier time with fans

@@ykcnn very much so. If not more. From the words of TheIshter in his rant video about pianists playing this piece: the less time playing piano compared to the technical skill required results in increased chance of injury. He's not a hater either. Both him and Animenz are good friends and even toured together a few times If you do not pace yourself or have not had enough experience playing the piano then you can put yourself at risk of Carpal Tunnel syndrome or Repetitive strain injury if what your playing is too difficult. 3 months isnt enough for this piece. 6 isnt either. A year isnt enough. 3 years isnt enough. 6 years probably not a good idea either. Animenz has been playing since he was very young. Age of 5 if I recall. He's in his mid to late 20s I believe. I'd say this could be harder than some classical pieces by renowned composers in history like Liszt or Rachmaninoff. It is easily one of the most technically demanding arrangements ever made.

I recently tuned my piano for the first time and asked my tuner if he could teach me the basics while he tuned which he did. According to him the sound you get when you hold the pedal for too long is due to the frequency of the the strings resonating with different stuff in the piano as everything has a frequency where it will emmit a sound. Like if you hold the middle C which is about 440hz for too long its frequency will change over time which will resonate with other strings in the piano or even the bridge itself
@WattKeys3 жыл бұрын

While I was analyzing Animenz' right hand at 2:00 in the original video, bar 66-69, in order to get the fingering down, I noticed something VERY interesting. In bar 67, he has to accent the Bb, one of the notes that helps the big chords with carrying the melody. Like you said, it's almost impossible to accent these notes with just your fingers, and you need external help, so you do that by using your body and the pedal. But one of the ways that he helps the 4th finger accent that Bb is by skipping the note just before it, A. I know this isn't just a mistake of his, as he does it TWICE. And with a closer look, I could actually see that he doesn't even make an attempt at playing the A key. Doing this 7:15 gives him the time he needs to lift up his 4th finger in order to generate the speed and power to accent the Bb. He plays these runs four times, but he plays the same two runs and alternates between them. The first and third run has the accented note as Bb, and the second and fourth run has the accented note as C. When he plays the second and fourth runs, he doesn't skip the note before the accented C. This is because he actually needs to stretch out his 4th and 5th finger SLIGHTLY in order to reach the C properly. With his already insanely fast moving fingers, hand and arm, this SLIGHT stretch gives him just enough momentum in order to accent the C so that he doesn’t need to skip the A. However, the accented C is not nearly as powerful as the accented Bb because of this. Another thing I noticed is that in all of the runs, he actually does take a slight pause to lift up and accent the top note. Most other covers don’t take the time to accent those top notes, and in turn it doesn’t sound as powerful as Animenz’ version. I can't imagine the brainpower required to make such an altercation in the piece that both makes it easier to play, but also makes it sound better. Sacrificing a note in order to articulate another is a very brave move, and the fact that he manages to pull it off so smoothly is absolutely bonkers. This further solidifies Animenz as a GODLY pianist who inspires both some to learn the piano and some to quit.

tbh, i was rewatching this piece recently, and there's something nearly noone ever mentioned (only a quick mention at the end), even in the sheet/transcriptions you can find : it's the use of the una-corda at some specific moment, well you need to have a bit of eye training to see it cause of the keyboard shift on a grand piano (on a straight one you should see a little effect on the keyboard making the keys drop down a bit). i'm suprised you don't noticed that ^^ edit: for people wondering what it is about: una-corda is a pedal effect, originaly only available on grand piano and faked on straight one. So the sound on a piano is basicaly made of multiple ropes 'singing' toegther to produce one sound (exept for the extrem notes), so the una corda is a mechanical effect who shift the hammer a bit to only let them hit one of the ropes (so called una corda), and this makes the sound a bit less deep, powerfull, in one word: softer ; by shifting the keys, the keyboard also shift, so you can see it when toggled. (on a straight piano, where you cannot shift the hammer, dont gonna explain why but the mechanics are differents, you fake it by forcing the hammers to strike the ropes with less power, just by making their standard position closer to the ropes (so it imply a 'relaxation' on the keys mechanics, and a down shifting of the keys)). Im talking about that cause i'm an abuser of the una corda, and i think, in my option, that's something people doesnt discuss about, exactly as the reverb pedal, using it nicely is difficult (i remember a video by David Fray about the use of pedals on some Chopin works, saying a pianist should also be a dancer)

This guys doing what I want to do, talking about how good animenz is. I could talk for hours and hours about how great animenz is exept people would get annoyed. Good thing we have youtube and a large group of people who think like me! Thanks for this video.

Just new here before 800 to 1k and so on subs on your channel..I'm not into piano but loves listening to it and watching some reviews on songs, music etc. And the way you review makes me stay here watching. 😊 Looking forward on your future vids! ✨

Watts up! I normally don't care to deep dive and analyze songs/videos but boy do you make it interesting and even entertaining. I really enjoyed hearing your take on it :P

Great review! I really enjoyed hearing your breakdown of the technical aspects and emphasizing just how difficult the piece is in that regard. I would love to see you review a marasy8 piano cover some day, if that ever interests you!

Trying and avoiding temptation to learn this. People don’t realize what they are getting into with stuff like this. Stay humble I’d say, and forget being a popular showman.

Glad I didn't ignore the click-bait title and chose to watch. Your videos flow very well, your editor is doing his shit, sound is clear, and you have a good voice. Subscribed 🙌

My brother's been practicing this piece lately and I was kind of avoiding it because of how obviously hard it is, but the more I listen to it the more I want to be able to play it 😍

You should also look at some of Cateen’s vids! I love his arrangements just as much as animenz’s they’re very different too.

Just a reminder Animenz is amazing but don’t forget every member of Ling Tosite Sigure are also incredible masters at their instruments, and you should check out the original band!
