I understand why they gave it a wider soundstage compared to xm5 since it is design for gaming which is good for pointing out enemy locations effectively especially in first-person competitive shooter games.

well it's almost never better to have a narrower soundstage, so that's likely why they would point it out

Surprised that the mic's ability to be instantly muted simply by facing it north wasn't mentioned. I think that's a really cool feature that doesn't require hunting for a button on the side of the cups. Maybe that's standard fare in the gaming headphone space but I've never seen that until now.

I actually did mean to mention this because I said it to some people at work and they were impressed, but it's definitely pretty standard issue for gaming headsets! I've had it on my last few pairs, even some really cheap HyperX ones.

The only reason to buy "Gaming" headsets is for connivence (They generally come with a builtin mic) but if you really care about the sound quality or mic quality you're getting for your money look into buying each separately (look into cirnacle's video onto this, a popular figure in the audiophile space known for his graph measurements)

As a PS5 only player, this is fine for me cause I just want a really good sounding set of cans with system-level control on my console. Never understood gaming headsets. Why not just buy a pair of Sony XM5s and have great quality when you listen to music on your phone, and great quality when you game on your pc? The mics on these things usually suck anyway, so better to get a cheap standalone mic anyway. Feels like a big marketing scam to make you buy 2 headphones instead of 1. I use my XM3s as my gaming headset, and my listening to music, going out headphones.

@peaupi
@peaupi 2 жыл бұрын
@@pixels_per_inch this plus the tuning and soundstage is pretty important. Guns will feel "flat" sounding while other tuning will make them somewhat fatigueing. But I get where you're coming from, Hmmm! I don't mind wires so I'd rather buy headphones/earphones that have been reviewed by audiophiles and buy a cardiod mic than use a headset.
@pixels_per_inch
@pixels_per_inch 2 жыл бұрын
@@peaupi Yep, I had both the WH-H900N and the Razer Nari Ultimate, and I usually choose the Nari just because it works well wirelessly and has a mic, even though the H900N definitely sounded better and had noise cancellation. The Nari was great until it died just after a year, then the replacement died again just after another year and the warranty ended. Now I'm using my WH-H900N which has been with me for more than 3 years. I mostly use it mostly wired because in Bluetooth mode, it sounds worse and produces popping noises once in a while. Also the mic is basically unusable since it kills media audio, so I ended up using my wireless go 2 as a standalone mic. Even after all these, I do prefer the Nari since it was just more convenient. Now that Sony is making a wireless headset I think I might just go for it. It's basically the best of both worlds; great sound quality, noise cancellation, wireless, built-in mic and (most definitely) long lasting.
