It's like Tim's part was the melody, Scott's part was the guitar part and Vai came in with the "vocals" for his part. Thus making the end seem more like a complete song while the rest felt like just parts of a song.

Nice catch on the hip hop. Rap and hip hop music is a big influence on their sound and many of their tracks take inspiration from both rap/trap beats and the vocal cadence of existing songs.

I'll start by saying Polyphia is insanely talented, and Tim Henson is probably one of the most creative and talented guitarists probably ever, but he comes across as insanely full of himself and douchey. It really detracts from my enjoyment of the group.
