The recent poll on Reddit regarding "your favourite BAND-MAID member" was hilarious: each girl has got 20%. You were talking here more of Kanami *and Akane*, actually. My wife, being in general very much suspicious about all the girls around me, no matter who they are, is perfectly OK with the fact that the stickers and photos of BAND-MAID are covering all surfaces in our house. She understands that to fanboy about a musical band is a thing on a different level.

Puzzle 2017 is The Performance, a beast of song and the ladies giving their best 110% with relentless Kanami all over the place. Stunning. But as if this were not enough, in 2018 they presented an intimate and delicate work deconstructing the musical beast that is Puzzle. A masterpiece of rock music of this century. It is not possible to compare the music of Band Maid with anything known. They are entering a world still unseen...

Dear Wave! Greetings from Shizuoka (you know? That place dominated by Mount Fuji!)! Warming up more and more to your reactions! I am no pundit or professional musician, but simple facts should explain a few things: Kanami has a very solid classical education and composes all her tunes on the piano first, which explains why she can turn at will a song/music into what I may dare call "symphonic rock", and consequently she will never play the same thing twice. It is just in her mode. To go with that, Akane and Misa had both a classical and jazz education and contribute their own music to Kanami's proposals, ending up into a triple symphony! On top of that you add vocals, lyrics and rhythm guitar! Many a respected reactor has pointed out that they are not individually the best at their own respective roles, but they all agree that as a group/band/ensemble they are unbeatable! Never mind the unbelievable output and constant progress! Where are hey going to take us to? If they can already appeal us to unnumbered listenings, we may as well attempt to understand the reason of their appeal or we will end up as stupid slaves ( I do not mind it, though!)! Looking forward to your next reactions, Mate! Best regards, Robert-Gilles

Okay... I don't even know where to start. I didn't see the Acoustic in the title of the video before the premiere started, so that was an amazing surprise. I love so many songs by Band-Maid (nearly all of them), but this song stands out for me. True Rock-God mode for Kanami, beautiful vocals from Saiki and Miku, Akane making everything feel fresh and unique the whole way through, and MISA MISA MISA. The acoustic gives a completely different feel for the same song, and the beauty in Kanami's vocals is stunning. I will watch this whole thing multiple times for sure. Great job. :)

When Miku found Kanami it was a video on YT of her playing and singing, Kanami has described herself as a singer/song writer before Band-Maid. I don't know if Kanami has ever mentioned her musical education other than she started playing piano at an early age, but as to if she has had formal music theory classes, I've not seen any information on that. She may have learned when they first started and all the songs where written for them, she may have worked with the composers and learned from them.
@sacluvsBM3 жыл бұрын
Mincho first sat at the piano at age three. She began formal lessons at age five. She picked up the guitar in high school just to be "cool" with her classmates. Something many of us can relate to. Sacramento loves Mincho.
@VladimirChupin3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's a bit strange-looking, that the most gifted composer in the band does not have a formal musical education. Akane and MISA have, both have attended the Tokyo School of Music. Miku does not, she was planning an idol singer career, and she wanted to be a performer rather than a musician as such. Saiki also does not have a musical education, she was also planning her life differently: an actress, a dancer, a singer. Kanami has majored in economics. I think she never attended any music school. So, it's even more amazing what a long way they have all come. Kanami was learning voraciously from everybody who would cross her way. And she still does.

A mention is due to Saiki's wonderful breath control, in both versions. There's a fast, unceasing flow of words with no huge intakes of breath, yet no moments of the breath running out at the ends of long (and these are Long) phrases, not a shake to be heard. It's like the apotheosis of every voice teacher's instruction to "let the breath drop in." On second thought, it's more impressive in the full-band performance because of the amount of air she has to move to get that power. Astonishingly smooth and precise.
@mrz80 Жыл бұрын
That remarkable breath control crops up elsewhere in Japanese rock. Think Wowaka in "Unknown Mother Goose" or Yuko doing "Rokuchounen to Ichiya Monogatari". Those are both vocaloid tunes and you think "Yeah, Hatsune Miku can do those machine-gun-rapid lyrics 'cause she's software and doesn't *have* to breathe" but when live bodies punch out those lyrics at that pace it's flat amazing. :D

It’s honestly impossible not to like an eccentric workaholic genius like her, who is also a really sweet and modest human being. Her being a pretty woman is probably the least significant of the factors that make her such a muse-worthy individual. There’s a reason why she has always been the most voted member in all of their reddit polls despite BM having quite the rare balanced distribution of popularity among their members.

Thank you for reacting the live of “Puzzle”. That is also in the correct order (Band → Acoustic). I was really looking forward to it. how was it? Isn't it a song, arrangement, or performance that you have no choice but to marvel at? I'm glad to see the reaction (more than I expected) that was completely fascinated and in a state of being overwhelmed. You are one of the two most credible people I've seen in Band-Maid's Reaction. Your channel and a channel called "The Champ Of Medium". What they both have in common is that they have a deep love for music and respect for their past talents that have evolved through continuous connection. Have a solid musical insight. And show a straightforward reaction by your own sensibility. A place where you can appreciate the point without overlooking it. In other words, good taste. "The Champ Of Medium" is kanami's unstoppable variety of play I called it Riff Machine. You also sympathize with me, right?
@kairukafuka60223 жыл бұрын
The thing about Kanami being a musical genius is because she was trained in piano at a very young age and she indulges herself with classical music. She knows her music theory despite being self taught in guitar. Her mind has been influenced to the great classical composers such as Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, and more. Additionally her influences come from various guitar geniuses as well, Santana, Steve Vai, and more. Add all into that, she pretty much created her own style now. ^^ *note: she was a struggling singer-songwriter before Miku discovered her.

So what you're saying is that this song has many little pieces to that all fit together in an intricate and specific way. Kinda like a........ PUZZLE? :) And yeah, MISA doesn't really have any standout parts to this but, if you pay attention to her lines you'll notice for much of it she's either matching Akane's notes or she's mirroring Miku's lines with a little twist. Honestly, the 2 parts that always strike me in this song are Miku's back up vocals that you noticed the high/low/high on and the trill or whatever it's called that Kanami does to match Saiki's notes during the chorus. But yeah, this is a consistent top 5 band maid song for me.

I've seen it elsewhere that Kanami may be a musical savant. If so it would explain the great difference between her stage and off stage prescence and her band mates' reference to her as an air head. That she certainly is not. In addition to a degree in economics she is very technically aware having demonstrated for PRS with commentary and for Moreland pedals, on both occasions speaking with clarity and authority. It would also explain the growing complexity of her music and her non stop work on stage above and beyond what would be normally needed. And not to forget her classical piano skills.

I'm sure others have mentioned it already, but Kanami does most of her composing on piano, and she really does have the mindset of a composer. The way you break down how all the parts compliment each other to enhance the song in certain ways makes me think of the kind of composition that goes into, like, a movie score or something. The composer has to be familiar with how all of those instruments sound and what they're capable of in order to serve the needs of the film. It's not something you have to be a genius to do, but it is music done on another level. idk maybe rock and pop bands do this more commonly than I think and I just don't have the training to hear it, but it was really cool to learn about it at least. I really love the acoustic version of Puzzle, too. Kanami's voice was so unexpected. I mean, I knew they could all sing, but that sweet tone caught me by surprise. Ironically, the only thing I didn't like was the tone of the guitar. It sounded fine, yeah, but it was only using the piezo pickup under the bridge. To me, it gives it a tone that's sharp and muted at the same time, losing all of the warmth you normally get from an acoustic. I'd have liked it better if they had mic'd her guitar, but it's a small thing to nitpick compared to how great the entire arrangement is.

Since you found this video from bilibili, it's a chinese version of youtube. The line at the top is translation in simplfied chinese, the bottom line is japanese lyrics. The characters you were confused with are japanese Kanji, which means Han characters ( chinese characters).

Somebody may ask "why is this video so long?" I will ask "why isn't everybody's video on Puzzle at least this long?". You should do "anemone" the studio+acoustic versions. It's the song that the music box is playing before Puzzle and they play the acoustic version after that.

I'm still wondering, why they did not made a beautiful transmission from the music box to "anemone" first and then played "Puzzle".

The intro to the acoustic version of Puzzle is a stripped version of Anemone (a great power ballad) from World Domination, which just happens to be the next song in this little acoustic interlude. Ever since I heard/saw Thrill, I've always liked Band-Maid. Puzzle turned me into a Maidiac and a HUGE Kanami FanBoy. My all time top 3 B-M songs are Puzzle, Choose Me and Bubble. You are still pretty much a B-M nubbie, as they have 100+ songs. You will be continued to be surprised by them. I often describe B-M to my friends as their sound/style is within and outside the "rock music" sphere. They do what they want and they do it extremely well. I always look forward to your B-M reactions and analysis'. Just the way you do it...being able to pick up your guitar and play what you're explaining...Yuo are obviously very talented....and like Band Maid....HUMBLE. don't change. However, your live streams.... oh dear god.. I have only seen your uploads (coz of time zones) and they were hard to watch, but your last 2 with your wife!?!? (Slendour xr) She needs to be a part of your future live streams. Not only to keep you focused but you had such a great dynamic together. Your 1st few streams were... how shall I say this with the utmost respect.... extremely scattered!! LOL. Here's an idea..... Rather than just putting yourself through unnecessary torture, why not just listen to them as you will and give a review. Reactions are always great, but YOUR reviews are great and very well appreciated..... at least by me. Mate, keep on trucking...

The gyrophone intro to acoustic puzzle is from their song Anemone. Even though most people prefer acoustic version, the original studio version is such a beautiful composition too good to dismiss. Hope you check it out eventually.

I just love this song. It's so complex and so interesting. And I always find it fascinating that these two videos are actually the same song. And I have to agree about Kanami's understanding of music. There's so much in that cute little head that I find incredibly interesting, even as a non-musician. I don't even want to start talking about her voice in the two acoustic versions. So incredibly beautiful and together with Saiki just dreamlike. 【 'Our rock never dies ever. Forever!' - from BAND-MAID 'Manners' 】🕊️

The lyrics in Japanese you mentioned in a latter part of this video is like this to my interpretation : 瞳閉じて、また / hitomi tojite, mata Closing (my) eyes, and then また、君に落ちてゆく / mata, kimini ochite yuku Again, falling into you Over

Since you are on Bilibili. Should check out Band Maid “ Take Me Higher “ too. What you guy think?
BAND-MAID - Puzzle Lyrics: Miku Kobato Song: BAND-MAID Translator: Kafka When you said “Nice to meet you.”, It’s like hearing a puzzle piece fell into place. Although I certainly don’t remember but that’s fine with me. You’ve given my light a place, Amidst the melancholic darkness. Don’t ever lose that innocent smile, Even if my love will render futile. I don’t mind how you prioritize me. Hey…those are just lies. I can’t see nor know, All I feel is pain. But I long for the truth, So I can’t just resist it. Just for the meantime, Go and get encroached. There’s no stopping once I voice out Knowing that, you embraced her. It won’t hurt for you two to go outside. That’s only my wish. Like sweetly melting candy, Someday you’ll disappear, too. Your sneaky stare and scent will only remain. but that’s fine with me. On this lonesome night, I wonder where are you and what’re you doing? The harder I think about it, the more I can’t sleep. I can’t say that’s selfish, Since such a good girl is waiting for you. The answer should obvious by now. I can’t do it or even say it, Actually I know That holding isn’t permitted. But you softly touched me With your finger, no doubt about it. I felt love along with it, So don’t do things like apologize. Do enchant me and I will avert my eyes. I’m addicted to this incurable wound as it deepens more. I’m still falling for you. Useless lighters, The lined up glasses, The new clothes, Don’t cry, those are your remnants. I can’t see the end to it, All I want is to dream of you. Will I ever wake up? Don’t cry, let me believe in them. I can’t see nor know, All I feel is pain. But I long for the truth, So I can’t just resist it. Just for the meantime, Go and get encroached. There’s no stopping once I voice out Knowing that, you embraced her. It won’t hurt for you two to go outside. That’s only my wish. The puzzle is crumbling, It’s like the memories won’t go away. My eyes are still closed. I’m still falling for you. kafkasjmusic.wordpress.com/2017/01/21/band-maid-puzzle/

You hit it on the head! Their priorities are: The Song, The Band, and then the individual members. Very refreshing to see in a band. Great breakdown.

33:56 funnily enough, Kanami is self taught with guitar. She was trained in piano as a kid. She was a solo artist before Band-Maid. she can compose, play multiple instruments, and sing. MISA and Akane were classically trained. MISA was a guitarist before picking up bass. She plays bass like a guitar sometimes.

@40:58 The top subtitles are chinese, and japanese in the bottom. Kanji from my understanding is borrowed from chinese characters, that's why they look the same.
