Hey, this is a fantastic video series, b'y. Seriously, I also thought rock, or at least the spirit of rock died a hard death in the late 80's-early 90's (and beyond) with the marginalization of the great rock bands of the late 60's-70's in favour of grunge. What grunge brought us was a whole lot of bands playing nothing in particular, practically demonized the whole concept of musical proficiency, including the guitar solo. I actually got some insight into why this happened. It seems that, by the late 80's, the record companies had been taken over entirely by college-educated executrons, and the old record company owners were out of the picture. Those old owners were the rather unpredictable, quirky, mad leaders of those companies during rock's heyday, and while they were in some cases money-grubbing executives, they also were not immune to letting a lot of great and truly talented bands get air play. However the new generation did everything by mathematical formulas learned in their fancy business schools, and they saw the major, older artists such as AC/DC as just very expensive to promote and put on tour, etc. So they put them on the back burner and started hiring and promoting much cheaper artists, including grunge, rap/hip-hop and electronic acts which required far less expensive musicians and studio time for a very profitable ROI. Until Napster came along at least lol. But quality rock never did die. The great bands rolled on, and many other great and talented bands came along in the 90's. Let's not forget that Nightwish was formed around 1995. The only thing that's missing is the promotion of these acts as mainstream artists.

Episodes like "Seven Samurai," in which Kobato searches for the members, are a BAND-MAID classic, But this story goes beyond that. Using "Thrill" as a new starting point, how did each member create original Hard Rock music? This is examined in detail with accurate knowledge and valuable episodes, delving deeply into the personalities of each member. Fans from the SHIBUYA & SHIMOKITAZAWA era will also find themselves saying, "Yeah! Yes, yes! and nod their heads in agreement. What i can feel in this commentary is a deep "love💓" for rock music and musicianship of BAND-MAID .

What else can I say? 👌🏻 The part with Akane's grandmother is also new to me and far from unimportant. I know from my own experience that something like this certainly shaped her as a person and makes up a large part of the personality we know of her today. And of course that also applies to the rest of the gang who were so closely involved. I'm sure Grandma Hirose looks down very proudly on Akane and the others from up there. ✨🙏🏻 It's easy to forget, or overlook, that everyone carries their own package in some way. _____________________ 「 _'Our rock never dies ever. In an early Band-Maid interview it was said that Akane was made group leader because, one day the "younger members" of the band were turning up late for rehersals and when they arrived one time Kanami was there crying. So Akane was put in charge of them keeping time. I've not heard this incident mentioned since, because they are probably not proud of what happened.

awesome! Love all the Real Existence footage. my favorite of their MVs and THE one that got me 100% hooked on them all those years ago. So good. great details on their desire for the hard rock edge and forward direction towards that to move out of the poppy radio hype. I still think they need more exposure and more popularity worldwide. with the talk of the NJ show having to change venues, I have tix to that btw, I really hope they somehow end up in an even larger venue and sell more tix! Garden State Arena? (PNC bank or whatever it's called now) let's go Band-maid!! more more more! haha. such a wonderful collection of talent and humility! The more one learns about them, the more one falls in love with everything about them.

Yep. Band Maid single-handedly revived my interest in hard rock. To be fair, though, Band Maid has a style that kind of defies labels. Eventually we will hear future musicians talk about how Band Maid influenced them.
@michaelmiller38422 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your hard work Wave ! You should be the official Band-Maid historian. I will correct a couple of things for you tho. Kobato's given name is Mika Noguchi. She took the name Miku so there wouldn't be confusion with Misa. She is also the person responsible for the 5810. She has always said that she was a small pigeon who posesses the soul of an 810 year old man. Zamaitis included that on the guitar as a "hidden" identifier for her. I got this info from listening to and reading every interview and article about the band that I can find translated to English. When I got hooked on Band-Maid a few years ago, I spent days searching for every bit of info I could find. I'm anxious for your next episodes !

I'm sure their are many many who greatly appreciate the work that part of the "Maidiac" Community brings. It wasn't till about 14 mins in my TD brain kicked in with a note (NOT a criticism), just a friendly suggestion. When talking about a specific track or album, a still or a segment of that songs video in the broadcast helps keep the visuals contextually coherent. You have the content, but great productions have context as the real king. One more tip. At the end tease the next episode STRONG. Not just a note, but why the next one you don't want to miss!. ;) Keep the faith brother ;)

Thank you, this is really well put together with some great insights. I can't find it now but something I really like about them: on one acoustic video Kobato thanks Akane & Misa post song when they are playing as a trio, then Kanami asks if she can join in & they do a very brief non-comital 'should she, shouldn't she' thing before saying 'of course'. The look of 'surprise' and 'joy' on Kanami's face as she bows and asks 'really?', as if they were being serious, is ridiculous. At the end of the next song Kobbato thanks Kanami for her input. I've never been in a band where as a member you ask to sit in on a song & then get thanked! Is it a Japanese thing or a Band Maid one?

Great series about Band-Maid, I’m loving it. Really well put together. Something that I really wanted to see at some point. Band-Maid is by far my fav band these days. Collected all I could get my hands on from them (just missing that special "Start Over Edition Box", saw all their streamed Okyu-Ji’s during those two pandemic years and was wowed by that “Unseen World” monster. Wish I could go see them at some point in time. Band-Maid are the top of my tops, the leader in a sort of the four-horseman group of bands I listen to every day. I’ve traced a few connections/curiosities/links between Band-Maid and each of those other 3 bands - Silent Siren, SCANDAL and Maximum The Hormone: - I got curious about MTH after reading that two of Akane's fav drummers were Ian Paice from Deep Purple (that I already know a whole lot) and Nao Kawakita from Maximum The Hormone - so I went for it and very quickly got heavily into them. -SCANDAL is a band that I knew before Band-Maid but somehow never got very much into, until I heard “HARUKAZE” (from 2012’s “Queens Are Trumps) and bought he 2010’s album “Temptation Box” that simply blew my mind and finally went crazy about them, specially those first 6 albums. “HARUKAZE”’s chorus melody sound really similar/close to the ending part of Band-Maid’s “Secret My Lips” - one of my fav BM songs, so maybe it triggered something familiar in the back of my head. Another link to Band-Maid, I stumbled on a few photos from different Haruna’s birthdays (SCANDAL’s vocalist/guitarist) with Akane beside Haruna so I'm guessing they are probably close friends… and funny enough (now picking on your pun-intended pun!) I got some backstage footage where the SCANDAL members are all wearing black t-shirts with the words “BAND-MADE”… more or less 3 years before Band-Maid was put together by Miku. - Band-Maid also lead me to another one of my favs: Silent Siren - probably the least band I see people reacting to and when some do, normally doesn’t get as much praise as I think they should. Maybe because is “just pop”… maybe it’s because it’s a too-sweet-pop (they even have a song named “Sweet Pop”) or maybe is just Suu’s voice that is hard to get comfortable with in a first listen. Anyway, I simply love this band and I found out about them because they are the ones Saki and Akane dance to in the beginning of this Part 3 - “Koi No ESPER” is the name of the song and it’s from the 2018 album “31313”. Another link to Band-Maid is that Aina Yamauchi (bass) is beer-buddy with MISA and there is a video somewhere where MISA teaches Aina how to play “Glory” and Aina shows how to play the slap intro to “Fujiyama Disco”. Anyway, this doesn’t add much to the Band-Maid story line - it’s just a bunch of bits and pieces that I happily “collect” here and there - but I'm loving these BM documentaries. Cheers!🍻

Interesting how Akane is the band leader. I hear she plans rehearsals. You would think Miku would lead. Or maybe Kanami as writer. Or maybe Saiki as frontwoman. It seems they divide leadership like a true team🍌Saw them in Portland 2023 and Saiki was smiling so much more than usual. Maybe not the Ice Queen anymore??😁

I feel like Misa may have been the influencer. She liked hard rock. She wanted to quit. Saiki said she thought she would have similar tastes when she met Misa. My working theory is that Misa convinced Saiki to plead with the band for a harder rock sound. Kanami loves Saiki so would have respected her input. Then it's 3 vs 2 to convince Miku and Akane. Plausible?

Really well done. You should seek voice-over, narrator jobs, etc.

Thanks for another wonderful addition to series. Do you know what show it was that convinced MISA to stay?

Hey man I think it would increase viewership if you would put a link to Parts one and two in this video so that someone doesn't have to go search for them.

There’s a playlist in the end screen with all the episodes, but I’ll link that in the description and pinned comment too! Thanks!

Like the content. Just wish KZbin would stop with the ads. Twelve ads in 17 minutes is almost as bad as snapchat.
