My first concert, nov 8, 1980. Didn't realize Ozzy was gone and hadn't heard this album yet. I was blown away! Children of the sea became my favorite song and this has always been my personal favorite guitar solo (solos).

A couple of reasons that Tony Iommi has a distinctive sound is lost the tips of his middle and ring finger in a factory accident. This led him to having to use lighter gauge strings, Banjo strings at the beginning because light gauge guitar strings weren't available at the time. He plays a few different guitars but his long time go-to guitar is a Gibson SG nick named "The Old Boy".

Check out the "sloppiness" of Iommi on "Heart like a wheel" from his Seventh Star album. Drool worthy riffs from the metal master.

Ronnie James Dio left the band Rainbow (another fantastic band and one of my favorites -"Stargazer" is a must reaction) and joined Black Sabbath. Ronnie rejuvenated the band and made some awesome songs like this one and "Heaven & Hell", "Sign of the Southern Cross", "Children of the Sea", "Voodoo", "I" and so many more. Dig deep into the Dio era of Black Sabbath and jump over to Rainbow as well ("Stargazer", "Man on the Silver Mountain", "Temple of the King", "Catch the Rainbow", "Kill the King", "Gates of Babylon" and a bunch more.

Hi Bud - It was with a fair deal of trepidation that the Sabbath fans awaited this album after our man Ozzy had been booted. But for me Ronnie James Dio actually revived the band and also allowed Ozzy to progress after realizing his letting down of the BS. I love virtually all the Sabbath and Ozzy albums but this one in particular is a great credit to Ronnie stepping into the breach. God rest his soul.

Not only did Dio save BS from extinction he breathed new life into the band. Sadly Sharron Osborne insisted Dio not be included in BS induction into The R&R Hall of Shame.

The part that starts at 6:48 (about 2:30 in the actual song) makes my brain feel like a gum ball machine getting tipped over and all the balls going everywhere. And the drums during the solo are straight POWER

Is this the first time you've heard Ronnie James Dio sing? If so, congratulations; you've got a *ton* of amazing music ahead of you from Black Sabbath/Heaven & Hell, Rainbow, and his own band Dio. Rainbow: Man on the Silver Mountain, Tarot Woman, Stargazer, Kill The King, Gates of Babylon, Long Live Rock n' Roll Black Sabbath/Heaven & Hell: Neon Knights, Children of the Sea, Heaven & Hell, Die Young, The Sign of the Southern Cross, Falling Off the Edge of the World, I, Bible Black Dio: Holy Diver, Don't Talk to Strangers, Rainbow in the Dark, The Last in Line, Egypt, All the Fools Sailed Away And that's not everything; tons more good stuff there. I'm happy that you've been introduced.

This is a really great song! If you look up LONELY IS THE WORD COVER. on KZbin there's a guy who plays both guitars in this song, and he does an absolutely stunning note for note rendition of Toni Iommi guitar work!!! I've watched it more times then I can remember! Well worth the listen !!! Thanks much for this reaction! 🤘

You dont know who DIO is??? Hes the man who made the metal horns 🤘. Hes regarded as the best metal singer, and is referred to as the rock god by both Bruce Dickinson and Rob Halford. Hope you review more of his stuff. Hes the reason i got into metal.

You need to drop to E flat to get the drone working on the main riff. John Bonham was Bill's close friend and best man at Tony Iommi's wedding. They are from the same town.

Beautifully bluesy, soulful metal from one of the Grand Masters of that genre. Love it! Thanks for posting! On another subject, I'm looking forward to you resuming your Jinjer journey. I see you haven't reacted to Home Back yet. It's a very powerful song, I highly recommend it. The OMV greatly compliments the music,& I definitely recommend following along with the lyrics while reacting. Their 2021 Hellfest live performance of that song is amazing, & would make an ideal 2nd feature in a double feature reaction. Cheers! 🤘

This song is even better when performed live with drummer Vinny Appice in Radio City Hall (2007). I really love this Lonely Of The Word. Toni Iommy solo and the sincronic between Geezer Butler bass and Vinnie Appice drum. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5WUgIuuZrGIg6s This is Black Sabbath best formation. • Ronnie James Dio (Best Vocalist with Rob Halford of Judast Priest). • Toni Iommy (One of the best guitarist) • Geezer Butler (Best Bassist In The World with Klauz Peter Mazzio of Eloy). • Vinny Appice (Drummer). • Geoff Nichols (Keyboard, as additional player). Well, if you haven't heard Ronnie James Dio before then I won't mock you. I will envy you because if you follow up on this you will discover the early Rainbow albums, Dio albums and the remainder of the DIO Black Sabbath albums, especially The Mob Rules (1981) - note they did a great live album (Live at Radio City) and studio album as Heaven and Hell rather than Black sabbath. I was lucky enough to grow up through this time period. This album was released in 1980. This was a fantastic year for rock and metal albums: Heaven & Hell, Back in Black (AC/DC), Blizzard of OZ (Ozzy with Randy Rhoads), British Steel (Judas Priest), Iron Maiden (Iron Maiden), Permanent Waves (Rush), Wheels of Steel and Strong Arm of The Law (Both Saxon) and Ace of Spades (Motorhead). I may have missed some. If you like this song you should listen to all of those.
