This is such a fantastic plugin. With this you can level your vocals, and then add compression for saturation effect. Not overly compress to level your vocals if your takes are a bit rough.

Any thoughts on using Vocal Rider in a panel setting for a host? I have a host that tends to trail off and I am always riding that mic. Note: I also have her and the guests on set in a Dugan through Waves

Definitely! Using the Waves Vocal Rider in a panel setting for a host can be incredibly helpful.

Question - So let's say I have 5 harmonies singing the same lyrics, so the audio waves are practically the same with slight differences here & there with loudness. Would you recommend putting the Vocal Rider on each individual track, or can I group the harmonies together and put one Vocal Rider on the group buss of the harmonies? Thank you for this vid!
@MikeRussell9 ай бұрын
I would recommend putting one Vocal Rider on the group bus for all 5 harmony tracks.

You have to select a sidechain input. That's what the instrumental bus group is for

Hi Mike! If I am aiming to also use De-Essers, Noise Gate, Parametric EQ etc, where should I put this in the effects rack in Audition? Should I do it at the beginning? End? After a certain effect? Even better, what would be your effects chain order be to make things the best, with this plug-in included?
@MikeRussell Жыл бұрын
Generally you want to “fix” the audio before you enhance the audio. Ideally you would not want a noise gate but if you do I would suggest that would go first. Then use the DeEsser and then the parametric EQ but be careful not to reintroduce sibilance with the EQ
@derekoswald3740 Жыл бұрын
@@MikeRussell thank you! So do the vocal rider after all those effects then? Also, unrelated question: for your pro podcast presets, where do you recommend the audio peaks at before the effects to get the best sound?
@MikeRussell Жыл бұрын
I would suggesting match clip loudness to -16LUFS when you add audio to the presets

Derek, If it helps with feedback from another Vocal Rider user, I have this as my last plug-in in my effects channel before my audio goes to the master fader. My Master fader has a hard limiter and metering plug-ins, so those are downstream. I'm using Studio One Artist 6 as my DAW.
@zeitakulobusta9708 Жыл бұрын
@@DeltaWhiskeyBravo13579 that doesn't really make sense - put it earlier, in particular prior to compression so your compressor won't need to work as hard and so need less extreme settings and create less noticeable artefacts. Think of it in that way and before de-essing etc also makes sense.

Would you put it before or after a compressor?
@MikeRussell2 жыл бұрын
You wouldn't need to add compression as the job of this plugin is auto-levelling
@rojoratatatata4002 Жыл бұрын
You would DEFINITELY need a compressor, the answer is after!
@connor-betts2 жыл бұрын
Where would you place this in the chain? Before normalizing the audio?
@MikeRussell2 жыл бұрын
In this case it wouldn't matter where before, after or both.
@zeitakulobusta9708 Жыл бұрын
Put it before compression and generally only normalize once at the end. Tbh if you've ed'd, vocal rider'd, compressed and limited correctly you shouldn't really need normalize. If you have to normalize at the start your mic gain is too low.
@zeitakulobusta9708 Жыл бұрын
@@MikeRussell yes it would matter! If you put this before normalise then it will lower the peaks and allow a louder post-normalized signal. After normalize? It's just making your normalized file quieter.
