Yeah, sample based synthesis has a unique kind of "crisp" character, for sure. I generally like it, although sometimes you get some intense resonant peaks that need taming

Wouldn't this be considered vector synthesis, not wavetable?

As i understand it, vector synthesis usually modulates amplitude of 4 sound sources in a 2D plane. I've worked that up in renoise as well, lol. The XY pad works well for controlling vector synths. This method is crossfading wavetables in a linear fashion (as they all do, more or less). Modern WT synths usually use a different method than simple amplitude (ie spectral morphing) between frames, but this method is wavetable synthesis, afaict
