She portrays Mary Magdalene. In the Bible, Mary Magdalene was saved from being stoned to death because she chose to follow Jesus. But in the video, her being stoned to death is used as a metaphor for the pain and destruction that come from following the wrong person.

It’s all a metaphor for loving someone who betrays you. A lot of people didn’t get the reference, which I’m glad you guys did. Gaga isn’t even portraying herself, she’s portraying Mary Magdalene who was one of the followers of Jesus and witnessed his crucifixion and resurrection. Quick Run-Down on Judas Iscariot Judas used to be one of Jesus’s disciples, but when he was offered a few bits of silver by the Romans to identify Jesus Christ so they could arrest him, he accepted, betraying Jesus for greed. Jesus kept him around knowing this would happen since Judas betrayed him 3 times before, but he never stopped it. When Jesus was vulnerable, Judas kissed him on the cheek to identify him, which is called the “Kiss Of Death/Betrayal” and Jesus was arrested and later on crucified by the Romans.

You got the meaning! It’s basically being in love with a person who betrays you, but you can’t help but love and forgive them regardless of how many times you’ve been stabbed in your back. you nailed it bros! check her lyrics, it will give you further insight. she's between jesus and judas, the dark and the light. jesus cleansed judas' feet in the bible, as she does for both men in the tub, symbolizing how stuck she is imo. basically youre seeing visual bible references, framed also as a woman stuck between two guys. this video was super controversial at the time but since its been over a decade we can all chill and enjoy reading into it in peace lol
