I've loved this song ever since a young child when it was first recorded by Jim Reeves released in 1959. We didn't get a TV until much later than most families so my mother listened to country music including this one over & over again on our stereo back then. Elvis of course became her favorite singer so we heard a lot of his music too. Love Elvis's version even more. Just an all-time great song.

You are entering the real roller coaster of Elvis's life, some of it still brilliant some totally forgettable. This the last studio recording of Elvis was as you say passable but slightly inferior to Jim Reeve's recording as it suited the natural timbre of his voice. Not a risque song at all.
