Not crazy about mismatched siding on the front. Looks like they may have taken off a porch - which is a huge selling point on victorians.

For certain no longer looks like a Victorian porch is missing Take asking price way down too modernized tacky inside for a Victorian house too much wallpaper that pink room eww pastel pink almost white paint be lots more classy especially with those expensive curtains!

I'd definitely put the porch back on! Looks naked without it.

Agree, and agree you can paint the crap out of it. They have all kinds of high tech coatings for it today. Maybe go with bright Yellow. Make it really pop!
@miketackabery75212 жыл бұрын
This was originally a queen Anne style house. The facades have been stripped of almost everything, including porches. Without them and it's original exterior decoration the building no longer makes visual sense. Of course the interior is missing almost all its original fittings, but there doesn't seem to be much difference in the rooms... well... except for the kitchen. The problem with rooms like these however, is that they need quite a bit of detail to look acceptable, otherwise they'll always look and feel empty no matter how much furniture and stuff you have. Crown molding, picture rail, chair rail, baseboards, etc. And they all need to be big. Typical store-bought will always look too delicate. This is going to be an expensive house to make look presentable.
@jancor543 жыл бұрын
It looks like there was a porch at one time with a summer porch above. That would explain the 2 tone siding and the bedroom on the front of the house with the closet that was just shelves. At one time that door to the closet probably led out to the second story summer porch. It would be interesting to check and see if there are old pictures of the house with the Historical Society.

Back then houses would have had a parlor, and if they were wealthy, his and her parlors. Then there would have been a large day room usually off the kitchen. I like all the fireplaces - and hopefully at least half of them are useable. A family with at least 3 kids might be interested, or maybe if the area would support a boarding house for students of the schools that would be another money making option. Set up two or three students in each bedroom. Let them handle their own breakfast. Hire a housekeeper to clean, change beds and cook dinner for the students. I agree with Criss that the front is certainly missing something. There is very little gingerbread for such a large home. Not for me, but nice and a good price.

It needs the porch cover replaced for sure. The Pepto and black kinda works, and caries an awake feel. Buhhht, they painted the fireplace white? I'd give it a brown wash to make it wood-like. 20:11- I think that's the septic tank cover. Suit up before you check. 21:01- You can add a light. 21:40- Desiccant! 22:46- The landing floor needs redone. 23:22pp- Paisley and black/dark macho furniture. There. Fixed it. 28:13- Depending on what's outside the window, the top shutters can go all the way back. Yes? And is that shower missing the rod? Out buildings need work. But not bad.

Love, love this ole house! Would be a fun project if I were 50 years younger. 🤣 Too many bold colors in this house! Do have mercy! A few wallpaper rooms ok, others are hideous. Love the old furniture touch. Refinishing (sanding and polishing) the floors would bring new life to this house. The kitchen needs an appliance upgrade and I would find an old refurbished cast iron stove to attach to the chimney behind the refrigerator. Use the refrig as back up in basement. Lots of fun projects for someone with money, time, patience and a flare for victorian style with modern touches.

Well Brad, An idea of what you might be in for with this house: Rebuild missing front porch, Victorian style: $25-30,000 Fix and paint siding: $5,000 + Windows -- repair or replace: $12-25,000 Redo floors throughout: $20,000 + Interior paint and finish restoration : $12,000 + Kitchen reno: $20,000 + 3 bath reno: $20,000 + Roof? -- unknown state Foundation? -- unknown state Finish garage apartment: $6,000 + So you're looking at at least $125,000 in renovation and repairs, probably closer to $200,000. May be OK for that area. But $195,000 asking price is probably too high. Knock it down to $175, 000 and do the repairs and renovations/restorations. You'd have a $300,000 or so investment. Sound reasonable for that size house in that area?

Thank goodness no one stripped this beautiful property of it's original architectural details! The deep moldings, chair rail, floors, I'm betting the fireplace details are egyptian revival encaustic tiles. That's why the relief isn't more pronounced. Closets in pre 1900 homes were small because people didn't own as much clothing at the time. Many of the "closets" in this house, were never closets. Dentil moldings are uniform wood block that are usually placed below the cornice. Most wood trim in 100+ year old homes are made of Old Growth Wood. Meaning, the forests from which the wood was fabricated had trees that were over a hundred years old. This wood is valuable and one of the reasons those windows, doors etc.. are still stable today. Doors, trim and sashes that are warped, rotted etc. can be salvaged. No new product can match the density and heartiness of old growth wood. Hence, the reason why people end up replacing new aluminum windows so frequently. Storm windows are the answer to saving windows of the old home. Repairing wood in an old home is cheaper and well worth the work. I only recommend that you slow down your camera work when showing property. Thank you for the tour! This is a fabulous home.

To remove the front porch is a Victorian sin. That was part of the charm of the building. Why do people do that? This once-beautiful home has been hurt by someone who has no clue. There is vinyl/plastic paint now. A friend had a guy paint his vinyl sided house a few years ago, it looked really great.
