Jeep Gladiator Modified and Trimmed to Clear 42 Inch Nitto Trail Grapplers on KMC Grenade Beadlocks

Earlier in the year, Cindy and I got a chance to test out one of the very first sets of 42" Nitto Trail Grapplers and on our Jeep JT Gladiator. Unfortunately, we weren't able to keep them being that they belonged to our good friend Mel Wade over at EVO Manufacturing but it did give us a chance to see what all would need to be done, to get them clear. And, while Nitto was nice enough to send us a set of our very own, we weren't able to get them installed or at least, not until now. The problem was, we simply couldn't find a set of 20" beadlock wheels anywhere! In fact, if it weren't for Lisa Wade working her magic, I think we'd still be waiting to buy a set KMC Grenades. Needless to say, this video highlights our Gladiator getting back up on 42's and we hope you like what you see. Oh, and BIG kudos to Discount Tire for helping us out too.

Gladiators really are amazing in that they can look fairly small in stock sport trim, and without the truck adding any structural mass to make it look bigger, look absolutely massive when 20’s and 40+” rubber goes on. Masterful selection in parts and overall direction. Looks amazing and I’m sure it functions even better than that. Absolutely hate that you guys lost such a great person and that the industry lost such a valuable asset at her respective company. Hope that Mel, the family as well as close friends can find peace soon.

It finally hit me, correct me if im wrong. Trail grapplers have old and new side design? The new tires you put on have a different angular design on each side. However, your older 40s have completely different square side design.

The 42's have a standard shoulder lug design. The 40's have the competition rock crawling design.

I'm sorry for your loss, seems to be the trend this last week or so. Good friends are as hard to lose as family. The pupper is SUPER cute; and good job teacher her tricks. That was awesome! I'm a diesel tech by trade, so I know this works with 22.5" wheels; but have you matched the dots up with the Valve Stem Hole to see if balancing is even needed? Never worked with dual Valve Stem Hole'd wheels.

So, these 42s did not come with any dots. I talked to my friends at Nitto and they told me that they used a special manufacturing process that pretty much ensures that they are balanced or close to it. I took it into Discount Tire and literally, one required zero weight, one very few and the others just about as much as a small car tire. They are extremely round.

How does the 6 cylinder handle them? I know the 8 speed auto was an absolute game changer but surely there is still a limit. What do you think?

It "handles" them but it's nowhere near as fun to drive as our JL running 38's.

It's funny... I like how 35s look. 37s always looked kinda too big to my eye for some reason. 40s I thought were just ridiculous. But now, these 42s look completely badass! I guess it's all about making sure the lift and offset make everything look like they belong together, which you've done very well here. Can't wait to see some clips of the Gladiator in action with the big boy shoes! :)
