The abuse starts out small overtime before escalating and by then most victims have been mentally abused (includes games to cause isolation from loved ones) so they feel they can’t escape. Once strangulation happens the chance of being killed by the abuser skyrockets. Also leaving can also get you killed. A lot of victims are killed within the first year especially if there’s a child or pregnancy involved. Abusers aren’t above killing their own child or another child to hurt the victim. They’ve killed family members too.

@the truth You try being in a domestic violence situation and try to leave, it's not as easy as you think, because chances are when a woman with her child tries to escape the abuser will always finds her. I knew a woman once who was a major sweetheart and would give you the shirt off her back, well she met a man and for all intense and purposes he was an angel he treated her with respect and held doors open for her. They got engaged within a year of dating, they were married the following summer I was invited to the wedding it was at their house with family and friends. 6 months later she came to my house to see me and my family and she wouldn't remove her sunglasses and after some coaxing from my mother she finally did, and she had a shiner on her right eye and tried telling is that she fell. I knew it was a lie, he came to my house and I told him if he took one step up my stairs I am calling the cops and getting him arrested and he left, I put her in contact with some people who help DV victims and helps them leave, well 24 hours later he found her, but little did he know that the police were waiting for him, he was immediately arrested. His trial comes up and not just my friend showed up, but so did 7 other women he had been with testified that he abused them as well. After the jury deliberated for about 4 hours his verdict was guilty of criminal abuse, domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon and forceable sexual assault he received 40 years in prison to be served concurrently. He is currently serving his sentence at walpole he has another 10 or so years left to be released.

I've seen and heard a lot of people saying things like "why doesn't she just leave him?" Or "she needs to get her shit together and go." Clearly too many people don't know or pay attention to these things. It isnt that easy to just leave a relationship like this. There's often a whole lot of fear. And it is totally understandable when you realize why. Many women who try to leave all too often end up in the hospital or the morgue. So do the people who try and help them escape. I can only hope and pray that this young lady made it out safe.
