I'm all for renting!! It's just me, I dont want to own a home as a single lady. I have no kids and and of course no husband. I always buy used cars I can pay out right. I'm so done with payments on items. I do have a credit card, only to build my credit. I live below my means. I am free of debt, and free to live. Ah it feels so good.

You sound like you're living my life. I spoke to a co-worker who was telling me that I shouldn't rent for life and buy a house. However if I don't have kids or husband or even can't buy a house outright with cash, why should I get into debt for the rest of my life being single? I don't get the dislike towards renting.

I'm single, child-free and renting. If I lose my job, UK social welfare benefits will pay my rent until I get another job. When I was 25, I took out a non-adjustable loan for 10 years for my post graduate course. I didn't want the monthly payment shift up or down. I actually paid it off early at age 34. When I left my husband, I had to default on a few credit cards which dropped my credit score but it stopped the interest. I didn't have to go bankrupt. 5 years later, I got my credit score back up.

I saw this HAPPEN TO SOOOOO MANY PEOPLE IN 2008, I sold cars from 2000 - 2011. I saw this coming from all of those predatory loans (even in the ones I signed out), like you were stuck with. I was a stay at home mom, married, in a huge new home, and in an abusive marriage. I am now divorced, he walked away with EVERYTHING except our precious child, and my life. I signed up for college, as my lawyer encouraged me to(the only person that truly believed in me ever), moved into a rental, it is not in the best neighborhood, lucked out and the previous amazing owners (I will be forever grateful for) updated my townhouse before I moved in. I am in debt up to my eyeballs, but I am safe, my kids are safe, we are healthy, earned my associates, will be finished with my bachelor's in May of 2022.

Amazing! I believe in you too. I was a single mom at 25 with three babies and went to college and worked while my kids were in school. I am 52 now with a job I love and have always rented because of house maintenance upkeep I don’t want to deal with etc. I have lived years at the homes I’ve had so landlords know I’m not a rent risk. It’s ok. You do what you need. God bless you.

Oh Wayna, you are an inspiration! When I was 26 in1976, I was evicted from an apt with my young son. We were living in my car for couple of days. I went on to become a very successful Realtor in Florida and in 2005 I bought 6 houses with about $800,000 in Palm Bch County, Fl. I took 15-year loans thinking I would have them all paid for when I was 70 and that would be my retirement. Through the recession, I lost them all and every penny I worked my entire Life for. I also got severely injured with NO insurance. So at 64 I also went bankrupt. I was the most depressed I had ever been. I just started working and saving and just sold that home for $100,000 and bought one near Disney for $125,000 cash. Then did a $35,000 renovation on it, too. All cash. I am 72 and did not want to be paying a mortgage when I stop working this year. I will only be getting $1200 a month SS to live on BUT I have NO debt at all and will have to work at least part-time at some level. You are doing a great service to tell your story so others can be careful what they do. Getting out of debt and saving is so important. Especially now that we are headed into a recession and hyperinflation AGAIN. I have remodeled my house completely with DIY and furniture bought on FB and it is just what I want. I LOVE being there. I just tell everyone to keep WORKING no matter what, just keep working at whatever they can find and it will all work out. I am proof at 72. PS You are smart and gorgeous in every way! A Blessing to all.

Sis LITERALLY EVERYONE went through the same exact thing don’t be embarrassed! I am an Escrow Officer and I lost my damn house!! I paid way too much for the house. Put $75k down put thousands in updates and I did the backyard myself broke my back. I chose the house over a wedding so I never had one just the court house. When the market crashed both my husband and I lost our jobs I live in CA so my house was $530k for 904 sq ft one bathroom.🤦🏽‍♀️ Anyway I tried to work with the bank they said nope bc we never missed payments in years Smfh! So I said I have to stop paying and fk my credit up before you will work with us? Yep! I couldn’t refinance I lost all equity and we had no jobs! I had 4 kids! Tried to do a short sale first buyer backed out when the banks started collapsing found a 2nd buyer and the bank foreclosed in the middle of the short sale process no warning just foreclosed. They said once the notice of default is recorded they are doing favors by working on the short sale and not obligated to do anything. Anyway so I went from owning my own home from 21 to losing my house. My daughter still talks about missing that house to this day she’s 19. Girl please do not cry you’re literally nowhere near alone. Love you and don’t ever feel embarrassed for getting through a struggle you’re stronger for it! ☺️😘

Sisssss! You got me up crying at 4 o'clock in the morning! I NEEDED this. For the past few years, I was renting a house below my standards just so that I could save to purchase a home. I was almost there & in this sellers market my landlord sold the house I was renting & gave me 30 days to get out. I tried to buy in a frenzy but this market is horrible. I just can't do it. I'll be moving into an apartment in 2 days. I'm a single mom. A professional. I'm feeling like a failure because I did the things to be "better than this". I've been feeling like I'm at my lowest point. Idk what God has for me in this season but I know it's going to be greater than anything I could have imagined. I love your honesty and compassion! Blessed to be a blessing! When I was 51, I left my ex and our 2500 sq ft home with nothing and moved into a 900 sq ft crappy 2 bedroom apartment with my daughter. We had such a blast hunting for everything at resale places and the dollar store. We really knew what was important to us and that little place was our kingdom! There’s so much more to the story but suffice to say that everything I have I appreciate because I once had nothing. What I lacked in material I had in blessings. I had my self-respect and self-love. 6 years later I’m still rebuilding my entire life but happier than I have ever been.

I don’t understand the mindset that renting is wasting money. How is having a roof over your head wasting money? I know some people that own homes and don’t have reserves for home repairs. Having to forgo heat and air because you can’t afford new HVAC or a hot water heater is not cute. I’m 41 and I don’t owe a home and never have. I don’t plan on owning a home anytime soon either. I like living in different places and not being rooted in one place. Even when that time comes I want something small because I plan to continue to travel.

It is wasting money. If you had bought a house 10 years ago like you were suppose to then you'd be significantly richer through equity. And you can sell your home every year if you want move into a new one. Why do renters think you can't pick up and move when you want. Poor mentality. It is literally the number 1 way to build lasting generational wealth in America.

Filed Chapter 13, was able to pay off from a job buy out, but had to rent houses for 8 years and made those houses my homes to the point both landlords offered to sale me the places, but I couldn't at the time because of the poor credit scores and bankruptcy. I was finally able to buy at 44 yrs old after praying those years for my own piece of America with a 15 yr mortgage, it will be paid off by the time I am 60. You gave great advice!! Renting is waaay OK!!! I considered buying a condo when I retired from the military as a single person, almost bowing to the "owning property is king" mentality. I was fortunate that during my Military transition classes in 2013, there was a financial planner that came with a different point of view. Owning a house for the sake of owning a house is ridiculous if you don't have the time, inclination and MONEY RESERVES to maintain that property! Some people don't really understand what's involved in OWNERSHIP. You are on the financial hook for everything! Every little structural, cosmetic, and utility problem that comes up or weather damage that comes along YOU have to pay for. There's also insurance and property tax that's due every year! I am very happy renting and the convenience of having maintenence on-call for any issues that crop up. Thank you for sharing your story spreading this word!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾Blessings to you and yours lady!💖💕

Renting gives you more freedom to move for career opportunities and you don’t have to deal with shady contractors and repair people. I liked not having to be home for repairs. Leasing office and landlords have a key. I saved more when I rented but I close to live in less expensive areas. In owning I was out 5k alone when furnace went out, had roof leak, fence damage and bought into the hype of upgrades. You still have property taxes, lawn care, homeowners insurance and sometimes HOA fees. My homeowners insurance is 12x my renters insurance. Homeownership drives the economy because of all the expenses that come with it. If it goes up in value you still have to pay realtor fees and taxes on profit. Technically if you have a mortgage you’re renting from the bank but you’re covering all the upkeep.

I just thank god im a private person and dont have the need or care to impress anyone.

It was not only about your past but also the fact that you had your child in the middle of it all. The guilt. I was there. It will always bring me to tears when i remember me and my son in a shelter. A girl from Seattle, Washington is watching your video today and it brought tears to my eyes that you felt ashamed to speak about filing bankruptcy and almost losing the shelter for you and your child. There is nothing to be ashamed about. The system is rigged in the first place, the cost of living is far higher than minimum wage, and even people like myself who went to college and has a fine career, I may never dream of owning a home, or even starting a family. The cost is too much. I cried not because I've ever been in your exact situation, but because I understand the constant struggle.

I feel so fortunate to have seen this video! I found your channel when your video about hanging a TV without a drill popped up on my KZbin feed. I'm a DIYer and enjoying decorating and redecorating my home. After the TV mounting video, I decided to subscribe to your channel, and then THIS VIDEO popped up, so I decided to watch it as well. Imagine my surprise when I realized what I was watching wasn't just financial advice on the advantages of renting when circumstances dictate renting, but a down-to-earth, honest, and moving talk about life and the human experience. For some perspective, I am a 66-year-old white woman, a retired professional in the legal field, raised by blue collar parents (with some ugliness thrown in, but I won't go into that; we all have our issues), recently widowed, trying to do stuff around my home that my husband previously did, re-learning how to live my life and find purpose after losing the love of my life. Your video--this video--was so inspiring for so many reasons. I'll comment on just one of those reasons. Near the end of the video, you said you weren't proud of what you had to go through (the bankruptcy and foreclosure, for the most part) to get to where you are today, that it was still embarrassing to you. I want you to know that at least one person (me) wants to tell you to let that embarrassment go--feel no shame at all. To use your own words, it's important to share where you've been and to trust the process. Those concepts will help every single person who watches this video, and your embrace of those concepts will certainly shine through every video you make, regardless of the topic, hanging a TV or whatever. That's my advice. Everything you've done and experienced so far has resulted in a woman whose inner beauty just glows. So those experiences are nothing to be ashamed of at all. Thank you for this video, for reminding me I can find purpose regardless of my circumstances, and for reminding me that there are kind and wise people like yourself out there. I will be watching your videos for a long time.

I’m a new subscriber. Thank you for all of your content. Thank you immensely for sharing your story! You have nothing to apologize for. Everyone struggles and goes through something. I’m disabled since birth with cerebral palsy. I met the man I was going to marry in 1999. We rented for years, we moved with our family in 2009 to a house out of state that we paid for…but, even with that, two years later in 2011, my husband passed away unexpectedly from a massive heart attack. Things just kept getting even worse! In 2013, I moved cross country to a one bedroom apartment back near my family where I’m originally from. Then my mother had health issues and had to move in with me so I could take care of her - in that same apartment. There’s a lot that has improved greatly (my mother’s health for one - thank you God!) and there are still some struggles. But every day, I am grateful and blessed. Every day I work at making the best of everything. I know no matter what, I’ll be okay at the end of the day. God bless you and your family sweetie 🙏♥️

It doesn't matter if you rent. Why is it embarrassing. I live in Sweden and I rent an apartment as well. I maybe don't have a bought apartment, but I'm glad I even have a roof over my head and a nice apartment 🙏 so I don't care if I rent. When I rent. I'm not tied up, I can move whenever I want, when something is broken I just call my landlord and he fixes it. Buying an apartment isn't even yours, because you buy it from borrowed money from the bank, because no one here buys an apartment cash, it's all credit. So no matter if you "buy" the apartment isn't even yours. You not always gain money in buying and then selling, most of time you lose. And you can't move whenever you want. You pay rent as well even if you bought it. If something is broken you have to pay it all yourself. What if you at that moment are without job because corona or you have been sick a lot and lost your job? Are you gonna take new loan to fix what's broken? I don't know... I see more benefits with renting than buying. People should stop bashing people or looking down on them because they rent. You are not a better human or have higher status because you "bought" your apartment. Just having an apartment is a huge thing

This is so much more relatable than you think. I was a single mom also and up and moved to another state chasing a job that wasn’t even what I thought it would be. I was tired of living at home and rented an apartment and then eventually that job didn’t follow through. I barely had a savings and was living check to check. At the time, I needed to be bailed out all the time. I ended up moving back to my parents house, going back to school and saving up as much as I could. Met my fiancé, and have built up a savings again. I am nowhere where I want to be at 27, but I know there’s a better plan for me and good things are coming knowing what I wish I knew back then- now.

Your story really touches my heart because I went through something similar. It was 2008 and my son was 2 1/2 years old at the time. I lost my house to foreclosure. I was two months behind in my mortgage. I hadn't been able to work that June and July, so I wasn't able to pay my mortgage in July and August. That September I sent in the payment for July and half of August, figuring I could catch up in a couple of months. The bank refused to work with me, sending back my partial payment. They demanded the whole amount right then and there, or demanded I move out within two weeks. They threatened to come with the police to get me out of my home and I believed them. I was very scared and didn't know what to do. I didn't have the cash up front, so I panicked and moved out. That house sat vacant for almost two years before the bank sold it. For two years I kept getting letters from the county with fines for overgrown grass, youths vandalizing the home, druggies and squatters occupying the house, etc. I felt horrible for putting my old neighbors through this, but couldn't do anything about it. I left that house super clean and pristine with all appliances. It was move-in ready. I thought the bank would take care of it and sell it right away. I wanted to do a short-sale, but they told me I would still owe the bank the balance between the sale and what was still owed on the mortgage. That could be thousands of dollars that I didn't have. In hindsight, I would have stayed in the house until they came to kick me out. Many people did and were able to live in their homes that were in the process of foreclosure for years before they were kicked out. During that time they paid off all their debt and saved up for their next home. Horrible time in my life, but I made it through by the grace of God.

Your story was not embarrassing. Gurl my story is embarrassing. I have felt bad for many years and still kinda feel bad. I didn’t finish college and It took me along time to break free of a negative situation my children’s father put me in. I have not own a home or car and I am in my forties. And 3 years ago was the first time I was hired at a decent paying job. I watched KZbin for ideas and tips and I appreciate your videos because even though I don’t like my space I want to make it look nice. Thank you for this video this make me appreciate you more. Now I need your help for my kitchen. How can I get your help?

Girrrrrlll, you are amazing!! Thank you so much for sharing your story. I’ve been in real estate for almost 20 years and I’ve realized that a house is never yours...you still have to pay property taxes. If you don’t pay, your house can be taken away. Property ownership isn’t for everyone and that’s okay!! I’m sure your story will help someone and I hope that they know they will be able to succeed!! 🙏🏽❤️

Wayna..I have been subscribed to your channel for a while now. This is the first time that I am seeing this video. It came at the right TIME in 2022. I am currently working 2 jobs, in work 7 days a week, I'm so exhausted, not sleeping enough, not as happy and it doesn't even seem like taking on a part time even is helping as much as I.thought. I am in my late 30s and I resonate with not listening to your parent when they tell you what not to do. Which I find may be the reason why I am just trying to catch up. And it is just me and I feel like I shouldn't be in this space because of that. No matter what though i am always sowing my seed and know for sure God will work it out! I appreciate all the tips and advice you gave. But most of all I truly appreciate your transparency and the emotionally charged video. Gave me some hope. So thank you VERY MUCH AND MANY BLESSINGS.

Girl I feel your pain, but what I do know is that you cannot have an Easter without going through a Good Friday. I was working, paying a car loan, rent and had no money to buy groceries but a good friend was there to assist me when I was in the valley. There were many times when I asked God have you forgotten me?. I need you Lord. Looking back I would not change a thing because of this situation I was able to buy a home. God is good. There is nothing to be ashamed about, you learn and you make better decisions.

Single mom with a son, and I’m around the same age as you. Thank you for sharing your story. I get embarrassed at times that I’m renting and not buying. However, we have to do what’s best for our families and we’ll being. I’m glad you have overcome those hardships and in a much better space! Love your videos and inspiration you give. God bless!

Don't be embarrassed. There are numerous single people, and couples, who lease large houses, and they're far from low income. The point is they're renting, in the finest neighborhoods, and you're holding shame, for not being a home buyer. You'll get there, when you get there. I appreciate, here, wherever here may be. Remember: Comparison is the thief of joy.

This is my second time watching your video and this video just changed my life. I am in my 20’s and ready to make that jump of house purchasing but this gave me a huge wake up call. I have now decided to invest and set aside emergency funds and like my partner is wondering what happen between 12:00 am (when I first started watching the video) last night and now. I am here working out how much we really have to spend and working out how we can save and put up for a rainy day! These things were never taught in school, our parents never sat us down and explained what they went through, so here we are as youths trying to make it out of poverty/breaking generational curses and building wealth but honestly we don’t know how to so we try what we can and hope it lands. I know what it’s like to be broke 😞😞 and mind you I too have been embarrassed but I feel like it’s more disappointed and feeling like a failure. This video gave me hope and I made a promise to my self today that I will never make any rash decisions with my finances. Thank you very much, you may not know me or my partner but your video have just impacted my life for ever!!!

Freedom comes from living within or below your means. In my 20s and early 30s I spent more than made leaving me with too much debt. By the time I was in my mid 30s I made some changes and promised myself to not carry much debt. At almost 48 I've held to that promise. Do what works for you!!

This is the most transparent, insightful and inspirational videos I've seen in a VERY long time. Without the test you cannot appreciate the testimony. (I got more than a few stories) The journey is filled with one-ways, detours, re-routes, turbulent weather, floods and seemingly dead-ends but through storms things are rebuilt and the growth potential is unmatched. Congratulations Wayna for living in YOUR new pupose

its 3:53 am and you got me crying too! THIS IS MY LIFE WAYNA! THE EXACT SAME TIME AND THE EXACT SAME SITUATION! When I was going thru, I had just separated, and my son was about 2. I mean the payday loans... the contractor, trying to sell even NACA!!... all of it! I was right there with you and didn't even know it! I have been subscribed since the I saw you put the marble contact paper on your kitchen countertops and bar. There was a light about you... that I just gravitated to... and I have been with you ever since. I am so so happy for you! So proud of you and I wish you only Blessings, Peace and Prosperity in your life. Thank you for telling your story... God Bless You Sis!! Asia :)

Wow, inspiring story. You learned many lessons, one being humility. Thank you for sharing.. many of us can relate. Here's a scripture that has always kept money and material things in perspective: Proverbs 22:7 "The rich is the one that rules over those of little means, and the borrower is servant to the man doing the lending.” We actually become slaves to the lenders. How freeing to get out of that vicious cycle. I applaud you.

Where you are in life is where you're meant to be. Don't be embarrassed by anything in your life, someone else is praying for all you have. Owning a home or property isn't everyone's goal in life and that's okay. Its what's right for you and your life. Live within your means in a way to grow your options.

I am crying with you. Please do not be embarrassed. You are strong. I am older, but I went through the same thing financially. . . . I lost my townhouse around that time. Then I ended up with an abuser who tried to control my every move. I won't go into what he used to do because I won't be able to finish this. I rented a house far from him. But it got to be too much, and it was too big for only me and my pets. Then in 2019 I moved into an apartment, which I cried and cried about. It's older, but I have made it look cute. I live across from a river and there is lots of wildlife which I love. My apartment manager lives above me. I couldn't ask for a more kind person. Before I moved in I asked her if I could have a couple of bird feeders and she said no. But I am clean and I keep it clean out there. Now she loves the birds who come and gives me jars of peanuts to keep the other wildlife fed. Sorry this is so long. I wanted to tell you I'm retired and I don't have much. But I have God, too, and my pets. I'm in the autumn of my life. That's ok. I've lived a lot but my life is much different now. I'm healthy. I'm grateful for that, at least right now. So, thank you for telling your story. You are a strong woman! I'm proud of you and I don't even know you. . . . be well.

Thank you for sharing your testimony. I had a similar situation when I bought my first home at 22. So I can totally relate to the sitting up at night on the couch and looking at bills and trying to refinance and having the adjustable mtg. I even got the home with no money down and it was a brand new construction. They tried to eff everyone up back then but we made it out. Unfortunately I have not had any parental guidance and moved out when I was 17. Been with my husband ever since and we just take it day by day. Doin well by thew grace of God.

The fact that you recognized that you shouldn’t have bought a place to begin with and the fact that you were still given a loan you couldn’t afford is essentially the reason why The Great Recession even happened. It’s a lesson to us all really. A warning against greed. I’m so glad you were able to come out okay and are so much stronger now. I love your channel and ideas for renters. Thank you for sharing your story. 💛

I came across this video randomly, i lost my best friend who’s from where you are in FL recently and felt the need to watch . I’ll start by saying … I absolutely love you , you made me cry and gave me hope , a little back story 6 days into a world pandemic my neighbors accidentally burned my house down… freak accident they called it , I had just left a relationship with nothing but my child and pets & I put everything I had into this home to make a home for my child , and within a moment it was all gone I didn’t have insurance I was left barefoot across the street holding my babies watching my home burn down , because of covid there was no help , I was so angry and discouraged I didn’t know how or why this was happening to me again left with nothing if anything my child didn’t deserve this . I realize now god has a plan I don’t know what it is yet all I can see is struggle but hearing you today I know it was meant for me , so thank you for this . Much love
