Sad that this has had to be implemented in New Zealand.

Crime is increasing in the big cities and if National don't hurry up and do something about it, it will worsen in the years to come.

While I think this is a good move, those in power also need to address the undying cause.

What I’m curious about now is how to deal with passengers who hop on without paying. It’s common to see the same old excuse of “oh sorry my card isn’t working, can I hop on?” or just running in without care. What, is the bus driver going to tell them they can’t go on? Like those people would listen.

much rather fare evaders than bus drivers working in unsafe conditions

yea there really is nothing good to say about the safety screens. it is extremely disappointing that they needed to be installed.

Not just safety screens but some self protection gear as well :) As lot many dairy shop owners are immigrants who have also to support families back home :( Their families rely on them !!

The first installation of Bus Driver Assault barriers was in West Norwood in London in 2008 with over 400 Acrylic Assault Screens installed over one weekend, and yet some 16 years later Auckland Transport itself finally decides it's time to protect the stressed out Bus staff from aggravated passengers assaulting the Drivers
@brentsummers7377Ай бұрын
Exactly! In San Francisco and the wider Bay Area the bus companies had those screens installed years ago.
@W00IS-JАй бұрын
Yep. They've been busy wasting their money on other stuff. Well better late than never.

I don't think immigrants were the ones making assaults in public transport? Get a grip man.
@smoked9640Ай бұрын
Instead of putting these screens up, how about tackling crime itself instead of work arounds? Be harsher on crime and dumbasses would stop assaulting people.
@MikeJones-m6rАй бұрын
Anarchotyranny doesn't address crime, it needs crime to distract the public.

I think a lot are disappointed in what he has done. I left my job because I got physically assaulted early morning in the city/ Just outside my workplace at Pullman Hotel, the council and my workplace didn't want to do anything to help the area be safe. It was a good job and i wanted it but not going to risk my life being held at knife point at 2am and have to deal with someone that is on drugs during my way back to car . I did a police report. They told me they have more cases going on and mine wasn't important enough. This was the same night a few months a go someone got stabbed in city and later died.
