Exactly. They know that some people in the jail will be assaulted. Approximately 20 years ago, I attended a speech during which a former inmate said, "The things you see in the movies do happen in prison. I was lucky because I knew some guys on the inside." If anyone else knowingly subjected another person to assault, could that person be charged criminally?

What I saw in the Wayne County Jail was the most inhuman thing I've ever seen in my life. I can still picture the pale red headed kid having a seizure & the panic of everyone in that block watching as he turned blue. Aggravated & agitated for being called on to respond 2 correctional officers chose to instead beat the young man still having a seizure. I left the county jail after 3 day weekend completely horrified & literally unable to sleep for weeks. I'll never forget what happened & I'd rather jump into traffic before going back there ever again

How many cameras could $7M buy? I know some people who've worked in government and they have said that it looks like their employer would rather spend money to address a problem as opposed to spending money in an effort to prevent the problem.

y 7 million? he was drunk driving which is driving without regard to hurting anybody and sure it was not his first time and if it was so be it but 7 million? if he was not drunk driving, he would not have been in jail. this is 1 reason not to drive drunk...u might just get killed in jail.

That's a good question. I doubt it was the family. Parties have the final say, but the attorneys do all the negotiating. I'm guessing that part of that $7M was (at least theoretically) punitive. What was the percentage cut for the attorney? Does the government really care how they spend our money?
