@@josephg6260 we dont have the big dorms where so many inmates are free to walk arround over the day. Every inmate is in his cell alone, in some cases there are up to 4 inmates in a cell, for example if someone has security measures and is not allowed to be alone for suicide prevention. They are locked in the cells the whole day, 1h they can go out in the yard and in the evening they can visit other inmates in the same unit in their cells for 2h. We sure have "open units" for mostly long term inmates who show good behavior, and we have open prisons for special checked inmates where they work over the day in their jobs and are in the prison only for the nights.

I worked at two different jails here in Maricopa County, one was 2,000 bed 12 story high rise facility with the first floor as administration, kitchen, and other offices, the 2nd and 3rd held 4 housing units with 4 pods each, the 4th held Visitation, both medium and maximum, Security Control, and medical to include an in patient 20 bed infirmary, the 5th and 6th floors held Juvenile, administrative segregation and closed custody housing 4 housing units with 4 pods each. That was the Madison Street Jail. the next I worked in a 240 bed Psychiatric unit with 6 housing units and a new infirmary that could handle everything except surgeries where they would be transported under armed officers to Maricopa Medical Center which had it's own secure hospital ward for serious cases where the inmates might require intensive care. At one point our jails had over 10,000 inmates incarcerated with in all 6 of our jails.

As someone who works in a facility that's the juvenile equivalent, this amazes me that it's not all that different. Some of ours sit in cells, some of them are able to walk around campus in their own clothes. Half of our residents are also foster care kids so it's interesting to also see the difference in behavior and attitudes between foster care children and children that are inmates (I don't like referring to them as such, they're all my kids regardless of if they're there for foster care placement or if they're incarcerated with us)

I'll tell you, you can watch jail videos all day long, but you can't understand what it's like until you go. You don't have any comforts in jail, no vices such as coffee or nicotine. It's cold and brutal. The beds and pillows are as hard as a rock, the food is AWFUL, and you constantly feel a sense of dread and depression. On top of all of this, you get no privacy. You have to crap on a toilet that sits right next to someone else's head. The shower is cold, and only runs for 30 seconds at a time. They don't even give you clothes and towels unless you have the money to buy them from the commissary. The deodorant even smells like shit, it's a joke. The name of the deodorant is a cruel joke too (it's named: Maximum Security). I could go on and on. And I was only in for 4 days. I hope no one innocent ever has to go.

fun fact county jails existed in the UK until the 1870s ! there were run by the sheriff - they usually called county goals or houses of corrections ! they used for remands and for persons convicted of misdemeanors offences at the quarter sessions. once the again the USA copied the UK. The inmates need to do a "SUPER CLEAN, buff floors, repaint walls and clean windows." Each inmate should have chores assigned to their bunks. The place is filthy.

What a beautiful female officer! I learned something new and interesting about that. It's a good sign that I've never been to jail in my life, so now I know what a county jail looks like!

Why do you carry an empty gun holster if you work in the jail?
@Tactical_Trails Жыл бұрын
Because they can not be armed inside the facility but they have to be armed while conducting transports, or perimeter security or if someone escapes. Hence why you only see them carry oc spray and tasers but have empty gun holsters.

There have been incidents where multiple prisoners have ganged up on a single correctional officer and attempted to steal their weapon.

Excellent video well done. Hello from Ireland. Our jails/prisons are similar, but the videos I've seen from TV reports and online documentaries about the Irish criminal justice system, seem to show our facilities to have a lot more bare concrete, concrete blocks, modernized versions of prisons from the 1,800's, and a far higher staff to inmate population, because firearms aren't allowed in our prisons/jails. Instead, at least from the one's I've seen in my area, we have a tradition from British times, of building a military base next to jail/prison. The 1980's video of the Spike Island prison riot (our version of Alcatraz but for low level "joy rider" offenders) and the army riot team that was sent in, is something. God bless you all and well done in helping to protect your areas from crime. I would look into separate showering cell cubicles, if it's within budget though. Just a suggestion.

Because crazy people smell. And the darker variety. Often, these two groups overlap. Have you ever visited Africa? Baltimore, Philly?
