One of the most limiting things testers can do is take the user stories as written and just execute them. Instead, they should transform the stories, model them, and from that come up with far more test ideas, cases (whatever you want to call them) that are much richer, useful, valuable, and more likely to discover product risk.
I diagram one technique of modeling a user story, which is to break it down into its parts and let the test ideas evolve. Trying to make the parts make sense together naturally leads to more things to try, questions to asks, things that need to be clarified.
