Another trick I use often is sidechaining the delay and reverb to the main vocal. It especially comes in handy when the track calls for more aggressive reverb/delay but you still want the lead vocal to cut through the mix.

wdum sidechaining??
@kensmechanicalaffair3 жыл бұрын
Sounds cleaner to.
@waffleawt65703 жыл бұрын
@@alexis7243 side chaining the reverb and delay to the lead vocal means when the vocals are coming a compressor can make the delays and reverbs decrease in volume so the lead cuts through the mix and whenever the singer stops talking the reverbs and delays well come up so they don’t match the lead in the mix, you can still hear them when the lead is playing but more controlled. If you ever feel your reverb and delays are making the lead voice sound missed up and they match it in volume, then side chaining is what you need to duck them down when the lead plays :) It’s not all about side chaining but mostly for reverbs and delays it’s this, you can watch “in the mix’s sidechaining tutorial” to understand more.

Interesting that you start with an EQ for basic sculpting, then you follow it with a multi band compressor. I think a better choice would be one dynamic EQ with both static and dynamic EQ moves. Also can function as/replace your de esser. It’s good to do this first in the chain, taming the sibilance before boosting any highs. It’s counterintuitive to boost highs and then de ess afterwards, you’re just making the sibilance worse, and the de esser has to work harder than it needs to which can sometimes yield artifacts.

@elmer81703 жыл бұрын
In my experience yeah, its not huge but it seems to be a cleaner sounding vocal when ur order is eq, deess, compresion, multiband compression. A friend of mine has a different style of mixing (he has a nice dirty vocal mix) and the only difference between our mixes is mostly the order of the plugins, he compresses first and eq's later.
