As an amateur lock picker I found your review a really an honest assessment. I should point out that the viewers should only buy these locks through a professional locksmith such as your business. Buying a high security lock on line is from an unknown entity can be a regrettable thing; my neighbor can attest to that! The seller had used his ship to address to visit his home while he was on vacation.

I know this is exclusively deadbolts, but what are your recommendations for knob locks? Same brands?
@christopherlawler30335 жыл бұрын
Schlage does offer a Heavy-Duty BHMA Grade-1 deadbolt that rivals the top-three locks on your mount... its nomenclature is the B-600/700/800 Series... of which includes as standard, solid brass free-spinning collars, steel cylinder housings, ball bearing drill protection for the 1/4" mounting bolts, and as added features; Full-Sized & Small-Format Interchangeable Cores are also available, along with the acceptance of both Schlage OEM cylinders on conventional cylinder models that also accept 3rd-party KIK/KIL cylinders as well... Single-Cylinder versions of this lock have a base MSRP of around $125... and the double-cylinder function will have a base MSRP of around $150... for the B-660/B-662 nomenclatures... High security locking cylinders e.g. Schlage Primus or Schlage Everest or Everest-29 Primus XP will add an additional $100 to $200 to the bill of materials, given the high security attributes of those parts... Schlage Primus is also available with the UL-437 option for drill resistance too... whereas the conventional 'controlled access' Primus does not offer any drill protection. The beauty of Schlage Primus though, is the backwards-compatibility, allowing Primus keys to operate conventional pin-tumbler cylinders that share the same default sectional keyway... this allows seemless integration into larger installations that also utilize standard or conventional cylinders, allowing the end-user to determine and to designate certain locks or certain door openings that are more critical to security vulnerabilities, such as main entrance doors of large buildings or more sensitive areas, such as infrastructure, computer server rooms, administrative office spaces, inventory storage or warehousing, perimeter fencing/gates or barriers, etc.

I believe the Schlage Commercial grade 1 600 series deadbolt is better than the regular home grade, even without the Primus cylinder, so it may fit closer to the high security models yet come in substantially less expensive.

Wayne. Wanted to comment and let you know that there is a new door hardware product that is perfect for loose door latches or deadbolt. ReSecure Latch is a revolutionary product that replaces the ugly metal sleeve that is used to hold in a loose door latch or deadbolt. ReSecure Latch sits inside the door alongside the latch allowing the supplied screws to hold the latch back into the door. No more need for glue, sticks, or putty either. Available on our website and video demonstration can be found on our YT channel.

I can't find the Schlage Primus deadbolt lock set you demonstrated. I can't afford 2-900.00 dollars to replace 4 deadbolt locks on my 2 doors of my apartment. What can you find that has a good security that can't be drilled and will take a thief longer than 2 minutes to pick? I'm trying to upgrade from the managements cheap locks that have been compromised already but having little income and having to do best I can to secure my apartment for the time it takes me 45-60 minutes once a month leave to buy groceries and rent M.O.

What I like about hardened pin technology is that, provided that all else is equal, the hardened pin will stop most attempts to break through the bolt in any case. That means that the intruder wasted a lot of time trying to break a practically unbreakable bolt, and that time could have been spent looking for alternative entrances. The hardened pin must however be top quality.

Good informative video....for quality locks...but this is just part of the equation. Can't ONLY replace the key locks....need to replace the short half-inch screws holding the bolt plate tiwht 3-4" screws, add metal plating behind these key locks (that wraps around the side of the door...touching 3 surfaces), the plates need more screws not just the 2 on most plates...etc. So many good videos on KZbin on this...When I move into a new home again...things to keep in mind (live in a condo now. Secured....more less (you need a FOB to swipe a black pad to open entry doors...but the problem is some residents let in people they don't know--delivery people or visitors...could be some one wanting to break into a unit...etc. Condo life).

I'm going with a Corbin Russwin DL3000 with a Pyramid cylinder for my door. Your thoughts? It's got a zinc bolt with a steel pin, but i'm skeptical of whether or not a zinc bolt is a problem. My city uses DL3000s in all the city buildings, and i have yet to see any wear beyond what a steel bolt would experience, or other problems, in high-traffic areas. Most kick ins I've seen killed the door, or door frame and not the bolt, even with zinc or brass bolts. The DL3000 uses mortise cylinders and a very different design from most deadbolts, so there's no direct access to the lock mechanism or screws by drilling or an ice pick.
@connerstines15787 жыл бұрын
I'll add that attacks with a saw seem kinda rare where i live. I'm worried mostly about kick-ins. I'll be using a steel door frame so that'll probably make saw attacks more difficult in itself.

What do you know about the magnetic deadbolts? (MIWA) I just spent quite a bit on high end magnetic deadbolts that do not have pins. Key is very different looking....flat....no groves. @bms91443 жыл бұрын
There are different flavors of Primus, and your bump key won't work in all of them. It depends on the iteration (e.g. Primus vs Primus XP), and the "level" of the lock and bump key. You probably have a Primus level 1 bump key, which basically should work like a normal six pin Schlage bump key if the Primus core you try it on is also level 1. The newer XP versions and higher levels generally require a card to get a key cut, and they aren't going to make you a bump key (though you could make one from the cut key if you know how.)
