Even though I'm not a mechanic I find these kinda videos really great and informative to watch, so thanks for this Emil.

Are we ever really mechanics?? Lol. If I can help more people feel informed and confident to work on their vehicles, then my job here is done. Thanks for the watch Ian! Cheers!

I recall we had a finishing attachment.. Was basically a motorized disc sander to put a swirl pattern fine finish on discs and mostly flywheels... Hardly ever used it.. We charged extra for it and nobody ever noticed a difference.. I used it on my own rotors just to deglaze otherwise straight rotors. Didn't take hardly any material off... Just made a nice surface for new pads to bite into.. Used it on my bike rotors too.

Nice, yeah as far as I know that treatment is for removing glazing on the rotors with a new set of pads. You can also just use sandpaper to scuff them too. Thanks for the watch!

I have an Ammco 4100 brake lathe from probably the 60's (based on the wiring style). But it still works perfectly! As well as simply saving bucks, being able to save parts that are made of unobtainium is great.

Ah yes unobtainum is a real thing. That's a very good reason to use these! Thanks for the watch!

Looks like ranger uses the same. Design as the old. Ammco brake lathe I used 40+ years ago when I worked at a peformance auto parts store... When i started I was low man so I got brake lathe duty... I enjoyed it tho.. I was like 15.. Got a. Nice employee discount on parts for my cars.. I was able to use my discount to buy parts for all my friends hot rods.. I used to adapt the brake lathe to machine all kinds of parts... One of the guys had made some custom bars and tool holders... We had an old Bridgeport mill too... And the ability to do some boring/honing with the tools. Not a complete Machine shop.. But we got alot done before we had to hit the $$$ machine shop.. I learned alot back then.. HRP opened and we had a legit place to race.. Ive always wanted a brake lathe... Not really something that you need.. But like you said... Were becoming a throw away society... R&R rotors and drums.. The ability to turn them once or even twice makes the most sense... But when you can replace for the same cost or less... It only makes sens if you happen to own the lathe. And to have it sit there unused for months/years isn't too smart economically... But I've still always wanted one..

Yeah you never know, keep your eyes peeled for a used brake lathe on auctions or Facebook from closing shops or retired race guys. Otherwise it doesn't make sense for most people to have one but if you can find a shop that still has one, they should be cheaper than buying new ones, especially if they are big ones that are more expensive. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!

*_Isn't the proper term for discs called a 'rotor'? Or are they called disc rotors?_* Thanks for the video. 👍🏼

Disc/rotor....they both mean the same to me. People use these names interchangeably. Thanks for the watch!
