We've been milling timber with the homemade bandsaw - and now there's a bit of heap of it. The challenge was to get it all up to the drying polytunnel. Bring on the monorail!
You can learn more about them here on this Facebook page.. / 1455654204532026
The flatbed wagon worked really well and it carried lots of planks. I'm guessing it could carry half a ton, but we didn't stack it that high.
Ok, here are some important website links. Please check them out..

Looking at how the monorail handled the Beech trunk and that they were used for moving heavy munitions, I would have thought the monorail could have handled all you will need, but the railway has a certain charm, almost an architectural folly, that makes it all so interesting, exciting, and photogenic with a good song as it goes and captivating to the mind which matters as much as function in the quest for eyeballs. Spalted Beech often has an intrinsic beauty beyond anything expected from the outside. Thanks for sharing!

It has advantages and disadvantages. Advantage of Monorrail: Cheap and easy to install. Disadvantage of Monorrail: Needs a lot of help to balance and it doesn't have great capacity. Advantages of normal railway: Smooth, easy to operate and with inmense loading capacity. Disadvantages of normal railway: Tracks more expensive and time consuming to install.

Dear inventor Tim. 👍👌👏 Well done again and as always! 2) Yes, Sir, you are absolutely right: Monorails are obviously marvellous. I would even say: Simply fantastic! I'm pretty impressed and amazed. I didn't know that system before. The only monorail I knew is used by winemakers in the steep hills of the river valleys in Germany. All with a little engine of course. One difference to your friends system is that the one rail is pretty big and sturdy so that the wagons and "locomotive" can be kind of clamped on. This kind of monorail is not laying on the ground but mounted on supports approximately 1 meter (or even more) above ground. As always: Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health to all of you (humans, animals, plants and railways). ;-)

Your railroad exploration always excites and entertains me with ingenuity and action. Looking at your map, though, I wonder why you don’t consider coming through the fence and meeting the barn track below the horse paddock. Certainly a lot shorter. Fewer things would have to be accommodated. Yes maybe you’d have to adjust the barn track mechanisms for more weight, but you are so clever. Keep on with your designs, love the results! I’m sure the best solution will come to you. Fondly watching from Texas!
@WayOutWestx2
@WayOutWestx2 3 жыл бұрын
The problem is there's a bank in the way if we avoid the horse paddock, and we can't go through it because we can't leave the track down in there permanently - too slippy. Also cars need to turn where the track would be. It's complicated!

I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but perhaps an advantage to a conventional 2-rail railway here, is the possibility of trains of multiple wagons, and of wagons with bogies! I don't know if it would suit your uses, but I've seen models and pictures of logging wagons designed to be strung together to carry long logs- each car being quite short, and together sharing the load while being able to navigate sharper curves. Perhaps such a design could come in handy for your railway? Loving your progress, your design is simple, cheap, and works! What more could you ask for?

Why not put in a supply of monorail track to move things around the rest of the yard? You could put it in and take it out as needs dictate, as you did here. That way your yard isn't cluttered up with twin rail track. Oh, and what about mounting a bicycle wheel on the side of the monorail cart by the handles, just far enough up to take some of the load when you're loading it? That way you could tilt the load against the bicycle tire and easily keep it balanced, but the bulk of the weight would be on the monorail? Just a thought that the movable, portable monorail system might get you closer to your goal with less trouble and expanse. Cheerz!

Transloading/transshipping is always annoying. Can you imagine a special wagon that would have 2 casters in the middle being dropped down via some leaver or smthng? Just push it to end of track, drop down the casters and continue with same wagon on monorail until you reach another track again where you re-rail back onto full railway just by switching the leaver back. It would be useful for servicing fields - just use monorail for temporary access where the rails would be overkill.
