After a great short stay in Tbilisi, we rented a 4x4 to explore the countryside of Georgia! Our first destination was Mestia in the far Northwest of the country.
Mestia is the perfect starting point to explore the Svaneti region which is on the southern slopes of the Caucasus mountains. Svaneti is one of the most beautiful areas in the entire country and there is a lot of great hiking here.
On our first day we did one of the most popular hikes in the area to Koruldi Lakes. There are several routes to get to the lakes and for the first few miles, we took a 4x4, jeep road. The road was in pretty rough condition after all the rain but despite all of my nerves and anxiety about the narrow, steep road with hairpin turns, we made it safely to our stopping point where we got started on the trail.
The jeep road actually continues the entire way to the lakes but it was late May and most of the road was covered in snow after the halfway point. We had always intended to hike the second part so we parked the car and made our way up the rest of the trail on foot.
It was an incredibly beautiful hike with amazing views in all directions of the rugged mountains!

I loved the views of the mountains and the caves. There must be a fascinating history there. Miles, pro tip: you still have a marginal probability of success with 3 wheels grounded as my old statistics teacher used to say.... And one of the many reasons I switched majors... Beautiful trip!

I love your comment about breakfast in the Causcuses, that every morning was like a Thanksgiving feast. How true! The roads in and out of Ushguli are a crap shoot because of long term construction and rock slides, so it will be interesting to see how you fared with that. You were brave (crazy?) to drive up to Koruldi that time of year. But you lived to tell about it!

Thanks so much for watching, glad you enjoyed it! We actually just posted our video from Ushguli and your comment about the roads is spot on! It was not as bad as the road up to Koruldi Lakes but was still quite the adventure!

I had to pause the video and comment. Wow, that road was SKETCHY! I would have been screaming. :) What about traffic coming the other direction? What if another car came?

LOL!!! Luckily we did not have to deal with any oncoming cars but it was most certainly only wide enough for 1 car at a time. I guess we would have had to back down until there was an area wide enough for the other car to pass. 😳😳 Lol not ideal! In hindsight, probably should have taken the hiking trail the whole way instead of trying to cut off part of it with the jeep road. 😂

I would of had so many heart attacks on that mountain road. Nope. No. Naw. 👀 I would have hiked it. Forget that.
