I remember when the Sabre F-2 and MiG-17 were the top dogs of the game when I first started playing. The debates between US and USSR mains over what was better were intense.

Sabre F-2 vs Mig-15 bis was the meta I remember. Sabers had the edge in furballs due to the easier guns but in 1v1s the migs would always win unless the sabres managed to run away. The Mig-17 evened things out and it was perfectly balanced until the Hunter arrived

WeBe, regarding your comment about where the muzzles on the Meteor's 20mm are vis a vis the barrel ends---have you heard of something called a *blast tube?* It's most often used with motorcannon, as their barrels are quite frequently not long enough to reach through the engine and out the spinner. A blast tube is simply a smoothbore section of pipe slightly larger in diameter than the gun, and it provides a pathway for the bullets/shells to exit the body of the plane, while providing protection from effects of muzzle blast and hot gun gasses.

So why not just extend the barrel? In theory, wouldn’t that reduce weight (assuming the barrel and blast tube are made of the same material) and increase muzzle velocity as the gasses will have less of a gap to escape from?

@@radicaljellyfish4435 Because barrel length is one part of a balancing act between Cartridge Pressure, Projectile Mass/Velocity, RoF, gun action mechanism (gas-op? recoil-op?). Also, Blast Tubes are usually made out of cheaper sheet metal, compared to the refined alloy of a gun barrel (not counting the expense of rifling). Look at British Hispano Mk.2 (late Hurricanes) and Mk. 5 (on Tempests). The Mark 5 has barrels aprox. 1/3 the length of the Mark 2, and gives up a little Velocity and a little Accuracy to gain less Weight, higher RoF, and _much_ less Drag (as the short bbls. can be set all the way _inside_ the wing).

You’ve got to try the P-39N-0 in one of your next videos. It’s a bit of a beast at 2.7. Cannon is insane, MGs are good, climbs like crazy, and the turn time isn’t awful. I’ve had a lot of success with it. It also gets unguided rockets

I love the Meteors, they're just such cool planes and a blast of a nostalgia. Gotta love having those quad 20mm's in the nose, it's still my favourite weapons combo when they work. I could never really get used to having the 50cals in the US Jets after playing this one for a while, especially on the P80 with the slower M2s. 6:20 was an absolutely filthy shot lol

Same here, back in OG top Tier that was my biggest gripe with the sabers was the lack of heavy firepower until the F2 finally got introduced

@@WeBeStronk Yea I remember the struggle of the first F86A-5, especially with the damn stock belts not doing anything. I managed to unlock it around the time the Hunter F1 was added so that was a fun grinding experience with constant uptiers lol I did enjoy them more than the stock Migs though, having such limited 23mm ammo and the 37mm which liked to go off in random directions was something that really took getting used to. Once you got those upgraded Cannons though then it was like a completely different plane. The stock Kikka was also something else, it's one of the few planes I full on gave up trying to grind, ended up sticking to the higher Tier Jap props before I stopped playing entirely.

Just a tip, in settings, you can turn off joining games in the middle of a match. Matchmaking takes longer but you never join matches late
