A lot has to do with rarity and quality. But then, you can have great quality with high availability. That would lower the price. But then, the area where it's produced is another factor. California wines being higher in production tend to be lower priced, as do Australian wines. Once you really get started in tasting, be warned it could be an expensive hobby. Also, don't pay any attention to those wine snobs that think they know everything.
