It's so interesting watching WCT evolve from just tag around an obstacle course into a game that requires strategy, planning and forethought, on top of the athleticism already required for it.

sucks that we lost tempest especially do to them having such great talent, but you can tell that do to them being so well known the other teams knew how to counter them. best example being tavon. had a weaker tagger be the one tagged by him to allowed their best tagger to step up and knock out tempest best runner and tagger, a sacrificial pawn to capture the queen in other words. i can already see it, this was a prelude for the future lineups. team lineups will become a chess game, your going to have to outthink your opponent because just like you their setting their team to outmatch you based on known skills and abilities. if you know who their best chaser is your best tagger is the one to be played next after your weaker tagger gets caught by them, and they will be trying to do the same thing. hell even once the game gets truly started and the line is disrupted thru an evasion this game of chess will still be in play because you would have tried to think ahead and planed for you or them messing the line so the people in front or back will still be capable enough to capture or atleast outrun the queen the next time their up to bat. tempest lerned a hard lesson today but their sacrafice just tought the sport a valuable lesson. pure and trained skill only gos so far, but knowlage of your aponent can determen the match

Tough run for Tempest. It feels like your weakest runners are where you leak evasions trying to tag, and your best runners need to be getting evasions. Instead, Nate Weston and Erik are some of their stronger runners but are chase specialists, and nobody else except Tavon could get a chance to evade. Teams just figured out put your lockdown chaser on Tavon and this team crumbles. I think they tried to hide Tavon midpack in Round 1 and he got unlucky, and then ran him early to double dip in Rounds 2 and 3 (today) but then he faced their best players.

Sean, (Antidote PK) tied for 2nd. Jeremy and Joshua (Antidote PK); Joseph and Jesse, (The Unknown Project); Stephen, (Ollo) Top players in both group A and B overall: 1st. Davis, GNF ==TIED WITH== Sean, Antidote PK 2nd. Luciano, 5 Borough 3rd. Antonio, Hollywood Freerunners ==TIED WITH== Kyle, Hollywood Freerunners *calculated by total tags + total evasions - missed tags - times caught Note: I did not include the death match failed evasions/tags in this, It seems unfair to me to say for example Christopher failed at his evading, when him evading for 19.2 seconds is what won the match. Since the nature of the deathmatch is different from the rest of the game, I think it would be fair to count this as an evasion in his favor, while counting Adam's 5-ish second run as a failed evasion. Here are the changers that these adjustments would make to the above stats: - Jeremy no longer has a 100% tag rate (remember in this method even though he did actually make a tag, he did not do it very fast, which is the point of the deathmatch), he is also no longer in Group B's top players -Joseph is bumped up a spot in the group B ranking, placing above everyone else listed, but still below Sean. In the group A & B Ranking he is tied with Antonio and Kyle.

For what Tempest has lacked in wins, they made up for with some unique movements and some of the highest quality moments that didn't lead to an evasion. Just feel they had a serious imbalance of styles and confidence on the quad. Some incredible athletes who on occasion looked stiff and uncomfortable. If I had to guess, quite a number of introverts struggling with the live nature of their competition, even just in front of the other teams or judges. Some good chasers, but lacked an authoritative confidence in some chases and the styles of evasion simply weren't developed enough. Something I saw was a very good start from most of the Tempest, sitting on the open side of the tilted cube to force the reaction of the chaser to trying and chase around rather than go in the middle. Gave them, when they did it, a very strong first 3-5 seconds to springboard into an evasion but it was often that next quarter of time where they lost it. I think what really hurt them was how close they kept getting to an evasion without getting it. Long chases with no points is both physically draining and mentally exhausting. A team would have to be made of steel to not be cut and torn down by some of the near evasions. They really looked at times like they were still experimenting with the quad and it's obstacles. So I'm keen to see how they progress as athletes with more familiarity to the quad and how they begin to make those runs between obstacles count.
@WorldChaseTag3 жыл бұрын
You raise a good point. The quad, with all the lights and music and noise is quite an intimidating place to be. It takes a while to get used to and for some athletes it's difficult to concentrate. Tempest dont lack skill, sometime things just don't work out the way they're supposed to.

This was a great match and I liked group B overall. I have a question about the scoring because it doesn't make too much sense to me. The Unknown Project received 8 points and Antidote PK received 7 points according to the graphic at the end. It seems that the extra point was from TUP receiving a sudden death win. However, wouldn't a sudden death win indicate a close game? Shouldn't the team ~without~ a sudden death win (which is to say, a normal win) be considered stronger as they had not tied during the 16 chases? Anyhow, thanks for the uploads!
@WorldChaseTag3 жыл бұрын
You 3 Points for a straight win in the initial 16 chases and 0 points if you lose. If a match is tied, you get 1 point each plus a bonus point for winning the Sudden Death Chase Off. So if you win a Sudden Death Chase Off, you get 2 points which is not as good as 3 points.

I love seeing Vincent in Chase 10, even though he thinks he has the tag, he continues to chase because he knows it wasn't an obvious one. Then, after tag has expired and he hasn't gotten an obvious tag does he call for a check. This is the exact situation that was brought up in an earlier match (though I do forget which one), where a player called a tag mid-chase that wasn't clear. In that match, the player stopped chasing and it was ruled not a tag, and since time had expired in the interim (obviously lol) it was an evasion. Though, I imagine it's certainly a *feels bad* moment for the evader in Vincents case. Believing you have the point than being called out for a tag halfway through the chase has gotta suck.

This guy gets it. The moment he sees the chaser commit to landing on the platform, and not immediately onto the outer bars, he sprints in the direction where the chaser has to make a jump. @worldchasetag *Hey, I'm a big fan! I have few a few ideas on how to address disputed tags if you are willing to read the wall of text below. Here are my proposals (the last 2 are my favourite):* *1.* One of the easiest solutions would be to have more cameras. You can add stationary cameras arranged in a grid overhead and on the sides that are only consulted during a disputed tag. *2.* You could look for a technical solution such as by having Chasers dip their fingers in dye before a chase. Each team would have their own colour and when a tag was made it should leave a mark. This would be complicated though. *3.* Another solution would be to have one or two heat-sensing cameras (thermal imaging) to review tags. This would have the advantage of being relatively low cost. It might also be effective at identifying when a tag has made direct contact as opposed to just touching a loose shirt. AND it would be super cool as a viewer to see instant replays of a tag in infrared. *4.* This last idea is rule-based and I think could work really well. It would involve implementing a rule that only the Evader can call a tag. So, in a case where a tag is made, the tag would be called by the ref when the Evader signals. This would give a chance to the Evader to be honest and end a chase early when tagged. In a case where the Chaser thinks they have made a tag but the Evader doesn't acknowledge it, the chase would continue until the time is up because the Chaser does not have the power to signal the end of the chase. If Chaser makes a second tag in the 20 seconds, the point would be moot. However, if the Chaser doesn't make another tag, then following the end of the 20 second chase they can dispute the tag and have the ref consult the footage, just like happened during this match with Vincent chasing Erik. This solution would prevent Chasers from playing the system by calling a DTR just to get a re-do. I also think that you guys could create a hand gesture unique to World Chase Tag that would be be used by the Evader to signal when a tag has been made. This would make it obvious to the ref and the viewers which would help with watch-ability.

In my humble opinion, tempest is a team of chasers. Excellent athletes, but poor evasion decision making. I say that but this was a very exciting match.
@WorldChaseTag3 жыл бұрын
Also bear in mind that because of the Tempest name, they had a huge target on their back. They were the ones that everyone was focusing on and it's tough to be in that position.

what's the rationale behind giving an extra point for winning a sudden death? isn't it quite random and out of control for a team to manage to get points in that way? Would counting evasions after the points total (without SD points) for determining the leaderboard be more fair? In my opinion Antidote PK performed better than The Unknown Project overall.
@WorldChaseTag3 жыл бұрын
The winner of a Sudden Death is a bit of a lottery TBH, but everyone knows that going into it so you need to make sure you're mentally ready. Its unfair for the losers but it's equally rewarding for the winners. If you win a match outright you get 3 points, so its much better to settle it after 16 chases and not have to go into Sudden Death where, even if you win, you only get 2 points (1 for the draw and 1 for the SD win).
@fragilemaileagle3 жыл бұрын
@@WorldChaseTag Right, it does actually make sense to me now because it was against Antidote PK that the Unknown Project scored their sudden death points. They did beat them in that game, so they lead the leaderboard.

I feel like that decision on Erik's point was a little unfair. If none of the judges called it and he didn't stop the chase to declare it. I don't think it's right to take away the point when Erik got away from him. I know it didn't make a massive score difference here but I feel like the rules there should be looked into. At what point do guys just contest the result to get a quick breather?
