I think the idea of a heel employing a Charlie’s Angels like trio of capable femme fatales is kind of a neat concept. Baby faces would be more reluctant to retaliate, and it’s easy heat for the heel. But if something has potential, ‘99 WCW will flush it.

What's really frustrating is that Savage could have been used much more effectively to help boost WCW. He was still way over, he could still cut an engaging promo. Give him a protegee to manage. Make him the leader of a stable. Hell, put him in a tag team with a younger guy to do most of the work in the ring. It was idiotic that hey kept booking him in high-profile one-on-one matches that were destined to suck because he just didn't have the tools anymore. What a colossal waste of time and money.

I think this is the exact moment that WCW went completely off the rails in 99. For as terrible as the NWO elite vs. b team was as a storyline, it basically dragged them through status quo through spring stampede. A lot of top performers got hurt………..and they just had almost no idea what to do next. So every week you have another deeply passed their prime main eventer seemingly changing faction loyalty at random, and none of it ultimately even appeared to be building towards anything. Names on the card not involved with these MAIN EVENT matches: Perry Saturn, Dean Malenko, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho ……

I think there was three points as to why Savage lost the title so fast. The first is Hogan, he could have been completely innocent and simply been told he was getting the belt on the Monday when he turned up because of points two and three, but everyone knows not to trust Hogan, the man was me first and screw everyone when their not looking and he could have come in, said that ratings were down and he was taking the belt and that was it. The second is the painful truth, rewatching bits of Randy’s matches on reliving the war you can’t miss that he simply couldn’t go anymore, what Vince had jumped the gun on years earlier was now the painful truth, Savage had the mic skills, the look and could punch like a boss, but he couldn’t handle a proper match anymore. You speculate Randy was compensating with team madness, and he was, they were there to help build out his matches, three hot blondes who could perform moves and take bumps and help distract the competition, the ref and the crowds. The tag match for the world title definitely implies that the wcw office had finally caught up as it let Sid and Sting take up more of the match and cover for Randy. The third point is the slap to Torrie. There was no getting around that Randy assaulted a woman on national television, I love the man but there was no escaping that he slapped a woman live in front of the world and it wasn’t a planned spot or storyline and I can’t see Turner/WCW execs and others not calling for his head. They gave him his main event and the belt, but I bet the pressure on Bischoff would have been from all corners and the hitting the emergency Hogan button makes all the sense in the world.
