My parents were super broke we lived in a 2 bedroom apartment for 4 of us and had tv dinners every night but they found a way to get us a N64 and we had all the wrestling games. They really do bring ypu back to a different time.

Same only a 1 br apartment. 3 boys mother and grandmother. 4 of us slept on the floor in the living room. Eventually upgraded to a 2 bedroom. But also had n64. It wasn’t very expensive. Nintendo was smart.

The diamond cutter IS in the Japanese game. It's a normal strong grapple move you can do at any time (that way in typical DDP fashion "they'll never see it comin...BANG!"). Anyway big agree on VPW 64. like 60 additional wrestlers, edit mode, corrected movesets/unique moves, the ranking and shoot fight modes etc. VPW 64 was the first game I imported back in 1998 and it got me hooked on Japanese wrestling. Cheers for this great retrospective!

Years ago during a trip to the lake, my brother went with my mom to the local Walmart. Turns out they had a video and video game rental shop inside. My brother found VPW for the N64 and brought it to the lake house. We were able to play it on the N64 without any adapters. My mind was blown! I couldn’t believe the number of wrestlers! It was incredible! Needless to say, a lot of my time at the lake was spent playing that game. I have great memories of all of the AKI N64 games. I wish they would have made an ECW one though!

Great stuff as always! I remember World Tour and playing it for the first time. My brother rented it. We played that game for hours. He got it for Christmas. I have my own copy. I have Revenge, Wrestlemania, and No Mercy. I love being able to go back and relive these memories.

Every time I had a shitty wek at school, once i got home, I'd always fire up the N64, or whatever consol I felt like playing, and I would turn my brain off, and forget about the cruddy week I had. It was always a good release to play a wrestling game, or a fighting game.

@@ProjectSh4dow you probably like the WCW/nWo roster in Revenge more, which I do too. But No Mercy had way more match types, create a wrestler, more moves, the cage, backstage areas you can fight in, branching storyline modes, breakable tables etc. It's definitely the better game.

Oh man, Revenge definitely takes me back. Even though WM2000 and No Mercy pretty much blew it outta the water in terms of modes, moves, match types, and CaW. Revenge will always hold a SPECIAL place in my heart. I remember playing this with my cousin, who's 2 years older than me and a female, but for some reason she liked to play this game. We'd do the 40 man Battle Royal mode a lot, and she'd pretty much pick Goldberg every time. This and Mario Kart 64 are the only games she played. Also, just wanna throw this out there cause I thought it was kinda cool and kinda weird, but the "Dake Ken" wrestler had a mallet for a weapon. Pretty sure that was the only weapon he could get, and he was the only character who could use it.

For me power move was the best. I remember my buddy got a ps1 in like 97 or 98 for Christmas with like 20 games. One being powermove and we fn loved it. Area 51 was my guy ! This was a much needed ride down memory lane

Got No Mercy when it came out. Still got the same cartridge, before the reshipped versions. I never had the erase bug problem. Still got blood and all that. Found one a couple years ago for my son. Brand new (no rust underneath or scratches on cartridge picture, blood, original copy). 48 Bucks including tax. They still out there. All the other AKI games I found after Covid. Every single one was less than 10 bucks. Get em before they gone forever.

AEW Flight Forever is basically their WCW/nWo World Tour. I hope they can build on that foundation. It was totally missing that AKI-style intro. If they do a sequel, I hope that reference the Revenge intro. Sting even has a legends contract. And how did they not do an AKI-man style AEW Man, I just don't know.

I don't ever recall commenting on the initial videos, so I am going to now. I got World Tour for Christmas 1997, and Revenge for my birthday in October 1998. My save data is still working to this day, and I loved renaming everyone as the years went on. I renamed Juventud as "Juvenstooge" and Malenko as "Stinko Malenko" thanks to Jericho in both cases at the time. I later renamed The Giant as "Big Show" for obvious reasons. As time went on, my dark humor hit me big time. I renamed Curt Hennig to "Dead" and Chris Benoit to "Also Dead". I never touched Eddie for some reason. I also changed several of the "fictional wrestlers" names as well. Ming Chee became "Penis" Executioner bacame "DDP 2.0" as he has the Diamond Cutter in his regular moveset, and Brickowski I named after my now absolute best friend as he looks just like him, as good as Revenge could make him look anyway. I changed the names of several other wrestlers to joke names as well, but I am drawing a blank at the moment. As always though...... WCW FOR LIFE!!!!!

Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 is, IMHO, the best wrestling game I ever played, and the $130 I paid for it (and the 3 month wait for delivery) back in 1999 was well worth it. As much better as Michinoko Pro (essentially VPW 1) is than 'WCW vs the World', VPW2 rates higher for me than wrestlemania 2000 or no mercy. Even without ladders, cages, and tables, the gameplay, roster, 16 open spots for created wrestlers (back in '99, that was AMAZING!), being able to name and defend a belt/title/strap, stuck with me... Find a copy or an emulator of this game, folks- you will NOT regret it!

In my opinion wrestlemania 2000's best upgrade from wcw world tour n revenge is performing your finisher will allow you to get the 1-2-3 whereas the wcw games more often than not performing your finisher will not end the match. However the road to wrestlemania is pretty cool when it allows your character to have singles matches n ultimately win the championship belt. The biggest flaw in road to wrestlemania is being forced to play way too many tag matches that become really repetitive n boring very quickly. My absolute favorite game here is no mercy the options you get with no mercy is great like create a wrestler mode the gaining money in game to unlock all the unlockables in the game. The games mode variety is the best in all these games covered. The biggest problem i had with no mercy is playing the main story modes seemed to be too easy to me even when id raise the difficulty to the max. In conclusion i really enjoyed all these games n at the time they were as good as wrestling games available in this era i absolutely loved playing them all growing up ❤.

If you grew up in the late '90s and you had a PlayStation like I did and you were a huge wrestling fan I know it was hard for us PlayStation guys to have a good wrestling game while the Nintendo 64 had such classics as World tour revenge WrestleMania 2000 and even no mercy To this day I still play on my original PlayStation and I still play games like WWF attitude WWE war zone hell I even play the ECW games which I really enjoyed I really enjoyed all the acclaim wrestling gamee But if you are a WCW fan oh my god I think you took it the worst if you were a PlayStation guy cuz let's be real nitro and especially thunder f****** sucked especially thunder oh my god I say the only WCW games that are worth to look for is WCW versus the world and the other one being WCW mayhem those are the only two WCW games I can recommend for any WCW fan

I have specific opinions on each, and have pretty fond memories of all. Probably the same opinions as you. World Tour: the most nostalgic, and had the best music. Revenge: the game I played the most as a kid, and as you said, probably the best with a great roster. With 2nd best music Wrestlemania 2000: updated with match types and moves, but basically Revenge 2.0. Music was okay No Mercy: updated with moves, but cut out full entrances and IMO, music sucked. But, considering updates to a game like this, arguably the best. I’ve never played the Japanese VPW games but they seem way more superior
