these were dark times for me as a WCW fan as a kid. Sting was my guy as a kid, so seeing Hogan take over rustled my jimmies.

I think they would still be around had they told Hogan to F off and kept Sting as their MAN! They didn't need Hogan. WCW became my number 1 so I could get away from Hulk and his buddies.
@Musiclover19
@Musiclover19 5 жыл бұрын
MonstarMk3....NO!!! WCW would have gone under no matter what, you internet marks need to learn that WCW didn’t die because of bad booking decisions they died because a merger happened between AOL and Time Warner and the new owners and the new owners didn’t want anything to do with wrestling. Literally that simple
@gst013
@gst013 5 жыл бұрын
Quite the coincidence, as rustling Hogan's jimmies was about the only way to stay relevant in WCW during this time period.
@gst013
@gst013 5 жыл бұрын
@@Musiclover19 Yes, the merger killed WCW, but "not wanting wrestling" is a massive oversimplification. WCW went from making 30 million in profits in 1998 to losing 9 million in 1999 to losing 62 million in 2000. Largely due to bad contracts and booking driving their PPV numbers from up to 700,000 at their peak to under 100,000 in 2000. While AOL/Time Warner didn't care about or like wrestling, when you look at a division of your new company that's losing a ridiculous amount of money, axing it is an easy choice regardless of what it is.
@Musiclover19
@Musiclover19 5 жыл бұрын
gst013. Yes, losing all that money in 99 and 2000 didn’t help WCW. But people seem to forget that there was a time, before Bischoff took over, where WCW NEVER made a profit and was losing money, but Turner kept it on the air, regardless. If the AOL Time Warner merger never happened WCW would probably still be around today, even with that huge money loss in 2000. But again the new owners wanted absolutely zero to do with wrestling.

Because he was a beginner at the time. How do you marks not know this? oh and to correct this video. Bret was a lesser selling champion than Nash. Nash could have potentially been the best champion of his time, IF Vince didn't make him the smiling babyface the very next night after he won the title. Then Vince turned the only heel left with any chance of coming off as competent, Bam Bam Bigelow, face and had him coming out clapping to his own fucking theme. Nash became the exact opposite of what got him over, and he had no credible heels to face. If they allowed Nash to continue being the cool villain he was before, he had an entire company full of faces to feud with. If they kept Bam Bam heel, he had at least 1 opponent to work with that was relevant until some new heels could be made/brought in.

The best compliment I can give you guys is to say that you are simply the best at what you do. So many assholes talk about wrestling, but to do entire shows, with footage, and not only remain consistently entertaining but actually escalate as the review goes on not only shows how talented you are, but how much you enjoy it. It's so refreshing to hear from actual fans who love what they do instead of the typical KZbin dork who starts every review whining about being forced to review something. Thank you, brahs. Make more shirts.

It was just 1 dude that kicked the shit outta HBK (in his defense he was completely shitfaced)... The dude's mates held the car doors shut on Davey.... Both original stories are false... "10 guys jumped HBK" It was 1 guy whooping on him and 2 other guys holding the car doors closed... The other orignal story was Davey and Pac locked themselves in the car cuz they were pissed HBK got out of the car looking for shit in the first place... I can't really make myself imagine a coked-out Davey in his prime being any form of a pussy... That story got started to just hate on "fake" wrestling and show how fake it is and they're not really though blah blah blah

I remember Marty picking me up and swinging me around and almost dropping me, and I remember being really scared of the big heels... Taker scared the shit out of me... Earthquake had a thing for my mom, I remember us taking him to the store in her Dodge Omni (google Dodge Omni, unforgettable sight)... And i remember being terrified and hysterical when I found out the big black guy was Papa Shango... My mom tells me I met Warrior and Sid but i dont remember... I vaguely remember Boss Man... I got a big pop when I didnt recognize the Mountie without his uniform and had to be told who he was, and I pretty much acted like "fuck off"... Saw Macho and Lanny but don't really remember... I remember LOD cuz of their hair... I remeber the Bushwhackers... I remember my mom yelling at me a lot to "sit down and leave those guys the fuck alone, they're trying to eat!".... Memories

If you think about it, Hogan recreated his entire WWF babyface run from the 80s in just two years in WCW. He comes in, immediately wins the title, has a long reign (for the mid-90s). Vader was kind of like his King Kong Bundy, and Butcher was his Orndorff, the friend who betrays him. He gets into a feud with Andre's "son," which ends up costing him the title. Then they bring in Zeus to fight him, and at the tail end once he's turned heel, he gets a feud with Savage.

Jimmy Hart's burial of Renegade is one of those moments in wrestling very hard to watch in retrospect. He screamed "You're just plain old Rick! You're nothing! A nobody!" which is the kind of thinking that led to Renegade's tragic end. I know they had no idea the man would eventually take his own life, it's just very hard to watch that segment knowing how things ended.

@NeptunoProduccionesTV
@NeptunoProduccionesTV 7 жыл бұрын
That theme was never used. According to an interview that some members of the group did, WWE changed their mind at the last minute, and didn't want to use that version. The members of the band clearly weren't wrestling fans, but the Kane character fascinated them, so when WWE contacted them, they did a really dark and heavy version of his theme for his '02 return. But the Fed decided to make Kane more human (this was around the time Hurri-kane became a thing), so this new theme didn't fit the direction the character was going. So instead of using Type O Negative theme, they ended up going with Finger Eleven. Which is a shame, as the unused theme was awesome. It ended up being released in one of their albums. You can read the whole interview here. www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/2yr6ux/type_o_negative_on_why_their_version_of_kanes/

Hypothesis re: military gimmicks not getting over, even in the US: Other profession-as-wrestler gimmicks can be explained as needing the money so they're moonlighting (Dusty Rhodes, sorta), or loving wrestling so much they're playing hooky from work (Matt Striker, which was not just a gimmick in his case). A soldier doing either isn't destitute or an enthusiast, they're AWOL. They're literally avoiding the whole reason you're supposed to be respectful of military vets...or they're liars and aren't actually in the military (which out of character of course is no different from any other actor playing a soldier, but in-character is stolen valor). So a guy who's doing the "I'm still in the armed forces" thing is either a coward or a liar. An actual veteran or retired servicemember making that their whole character, meanwhile, smacks of trying too hard to get over, or trying to relive glory days. It's one thing to have a few nods to past service or the commenters putting it over (as with Bobby Lashley, formerly in the Army), but even for those branches where they talk about how you're always one of them even after you leave ("There's no such thing as an ex-Marine"), to come out in full uniform to a military march is a bit like if Doink was billed as a *retired* clown who kept the costume and gags because he thought they were funny.
@HyenaDandy
@HyenaDandy 4 жыл бұрын
Sgt. Slaughter was really the only one who ever managed to get anything out of that gimmick, and a big part of it was the fact that he was so ENTIRELY that gimmick. His character was a drill sargeant, and he acted and talked like a drill sergeant. Most guys with the gimmick end up just acting and talking like regular tough guys. Any profession-as-wrestler is silly, but they do make it their CHARACTER. Recognizably, Doink acts like a clown. Recognizably, most military guys don't act like they're in the military, they just act like tough guys wearing fatigues.
