I'm 30, didn't start watching wrestling till about '07. That being said, this was the 1st ever wrestling game I got😂

I actually liked this and Nitro back in the day. All my friends hated them but for some reason they appealed to me. Not sure how having a deep roster is a bad thing. Tried playing it not long ago and to say it hasn't aged well is an understatement.

I remember begging for a ride to Walmart to buy this game. My buddy and I were pumped! I got home and we played it for an hour then both decided to go back to WWF Warzone or whichever one was out at that time

That sounds like the WCW Thunder experience right there 😂 Thank goodness we at least got 2 AKI engine wcw games to make up for this disappointment

@@RetroDrew Yes, WCW vs the World, WCW vs. nWo: World Tour and Wrestlemania 2000 were released in Japan as Virtual Pro Wrestling. The Playstation game only featured the knock-offs of wrestlers from japanese promotions, which were also featured in the western version but not the WCW wrestlers, while Virtual Pro Wrestling 64 (World Tour) does feature the WCW wrestlers. The final entry, Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 (Wrestlemania 2000) doesn't feature the WWF wrestlers, but instead exclusively uses wrestlers from All Japan, while also omitting the cage and first blood matches.

They used to drive one of my friends crazy so naturally we'd always try to make him submit when he played. We used to laugh and say it sounded like somebody crunching a chip bag 😂

After renting Nitro I knew not to get Thunder. I got a 64 and Revenge because of how dope World Tour was

This game still cracks me up for having Rey Mysterio be the same size as Kevin Nash. The one thing I liked about this game was the roster. Where else could you play as the Nitro Girls and win the World titke as enchanment talent? But that's about all it had going for it. Although you could switch factions from WCW, Wolfpack, nWo, 4 Horsemen, and The Flock. So you could have Hogan join the 4 horsemen if you like

I will say I do appreciate the massive roster, I'm not entirely sure why I even brought that up as a negative when I originally wrote this review hahaha. On a semi related topic, I'm not sure if Thunder had a similar cheat, but one fun thing about Nitro was a cheat that would change the background of the arena to a bunch of ridiculous locations like a developers basement or 70s bachelor pad with a trippy lava lamp background.

@RetroDrew Honestly, the biggest issue I had with the roster was that it was time-consuming to unlock. You basically had to win the world title with everyone. As far as changing the background, that would have been cool. I do changing the character's afiliation would alter their appearance which I thought was cool

if somebody can mod this game to have Revenge/No Mercy gameplay. it would be goated. this game had good graphics back then.

Thanks for an entertaining review! I enjoy live pro wrestling in Gothenburg, but don’t care much for watching wrestling on TV. I do however like hearing people talk about wrestling, and you did that with bravado!

I bought this game because I was a big fan of WWF War Zone and store staff convinced me this was the same, and I would get a free WCW Thunder Tshirt. It was not a similar game and the tshirt was too big. Bad times.

Couple years ago was at a buddy of mines & told him about the 1st ever wrestling game I got/played which was this. He asked how it was, as he's a few years older then me, told him don't remember anything except the weird Lil promos that each wrestler gives on the character select menu, then we realized with certain wrestlers while they're cutting their in game promo, you can hear a shite ton of background noise in the back, 😂

I was a WCW fanboy, I was super hyped when I got this and I said a big fuck you to WWF Attitude. My uncle took me to Target, we got WCW Thunder and when I got home It was a blast of an intro, my brothers where super hyped, the menu was great and we had Bret Hart on a WCW Game... Then it happened, we played the game. WCW Thunder sucked then and it sucks now!

I can only imagine the excruciating wait to get a new game. That reminds me of when my friend had enough money to buy a 360 but couldn't get a game. But it was right around when those burger king games came out so he had the bright idea to scrounge up enough change to get a meal. So for 2 weeks all he could play was Sneak-king 😂
