Glad Acclaim dropped the button bashing grapples from the previous gen WWF games, but changing it to Mortal Kombat type moves was a pain in the arse, having to constantly pause the game to recall how to do even the most basic of stuff. Also, if you hack into the game, you can play as Turok Dinosaur Hunter (though he's really just a reskin of The Rock). he was originally meant to be a unlockable character, but the WWF rejected him. Can't have someone that battles dinosaurs in a wrestling game, that would be far too silly with this roster :D The motion capture always felt like the wrestlers had no weight to them either, like they were just balloon versions of them, you can't un-notice it now >:D

I replayed the Stone Cold versus HBK match over and over again to the point that I still remember the button combination for certain finishes (Stunner was R R ⭕). The career mode was brutally difficult, and I loved the in-between promo videos. Also had some unlockable characters, which is something. One of the things I noticed is that the button combos made directional sense if you pay attention to it. Man I wanted this game for Xmas when I was young. Pops wound up getting me Zelda Ocarina of time..after renting warzone I was so happy he got me Zelda cuz I couldn't play warzone worth a damn!

I had the N64 version and the thing I hated most about this version was that it didn't let you select your opponents. Your opponents were chosen for you. That would have made a huge difference as far as long term play value went. I had dreams about matching my creations with each other but thankfully this was possible with Attitude since it let you select your opponents.
@CharlesP2009 Жыл бұрын
I feel like 40% of the time the game would match you up against yourself. It was obnoxious. 🤣

My dad bought this when it was released at Christmas on PS1 it was great, I still couldn't understand Ahmed Johnson during his promos even in this game. I used to make a custom character and I used A.J finisher the pearl river plunge I loved that move, loved going up the TV tower and watching the video promos of Owen Hart and HBK etc

Aged badly, but my memories of this and Attitude are close to my heart. I loved playing this game when it came out, and being able to put myself in the game with create a wrestler was awesome. This got so much play on my PS1 as a kid.

This game sparked my love for Kane. I wasn’t big on rasslin before my cousin got this…still took a couple years before I started watching SmackDown weekly, Kane being my favorite, but The Rock being the reason I kept watching

Being that PS1 was the first cd playing console my family ever owned, this game blew my mind. The FMV parts of the game was new to us and seeing live footage in a video game was amazing at the time. We played this game like crazy and we didn't have other wrestling games to compare to until later. So it was all fun. Up until we played REVENGE. We had to rent a N64 the weekend just to play it, but man, that game is fantastic. But I really wished REVENGE had proper CD Quality music and FMV movies. That would be an awesome remake. Thanks for the video!

I remember first seeing this in Xtravision years ago and rented it immediately. It was great, but World Tour and Revenge were much more fun wrestling games and after you played them it was harder to enjoy Warzone.

Warzone was groundbreaking from other past games. The roster could have been bigger like attitude did, I kinda wish it was harder to beat the game though.

Blame the developers. WWF wants new guys to the roster yet the developers fought to keep guys like Bret Hart, British Bulldog and Ahmed Johnson.

I was never a huge fan of actually playing War Zone, but it gets full credit for making me fall in love with create-a-wrestler modes. I had never experienced anything like it before and it's been the main draw for me in wrestling games ever since.

19:04 strong disagree on this one. WarZone commentary absolutely was a strong highlight of the game. I can't recall any wrestling game having a better commentary than WarZone to this day. It sounds natural and has a ton of recorded lines. JR & Vince are just great.

God this game had so much going for it, the presentation is amazing for it's time. If only the controls were better, then it could've been up there with the AKI games.

Me and my friends absolutely loved this back on high school. DX was incredibly hot at this time, and I would only either choose HHH or HBK, good times. One easter egg that I found funny is at the character bios screen, if you spin the wrestler (R1 or L1 if I remember), he'll eventually get a dizzy animation. Great looking back at this game, cheers!

I think Bulldog was trying to read off of a cue card. He recovers when he gets to the end of it. Also, Bret can cut some good promos! I don't know why he gets so much hate cutting promos, I always thought he did well.

I unironically and unashamedly love this game. It's clunky and awkward, but it was just too much of a treat for someone that was just getting back into wrestling at the time. Also becoming world champion as Freddie Mercury showed what a great feature create-a-wrestler truly is.

A cool breakdown and nice history for the wrestling gaming. Recently I tried to get back into War Zone on N64 but didn't have the save pack so sold it for a PS1 and just couldn't finish it, not a great game. Had War Zone on N64, PS1, and WCW World Tour, yet I still wish I had Revenge on the N64 so enough said.

I was so excited to buy this game as a kid on 1998. I remember when it came out HBK was already on the shelf and his trunks and roster was already out of date 😂 The best part was by far being able to play the entrance musing in the settings
