The reason it dropped straight to 3.68 TB after formatting is because the formatting of the drive itself involves splitting the 4TB of space into 'sectors' and labelling said sectors for easier and faster access to the memory later, so unfortunately the formatting itself takes up a a large amount of memory on such a big drive but there again without the formatting, it would take much longer to search through the whole 4TB to find and load the games so unfortunately we can't have it both ways!

Pretty good sometimes when I leave the PS4 in rest mode, I think there isn't enough power going to the WD, so it sometime disconnects improperly. I have had it a few years now. Honestly, just for speed purposes I would go with an SSD but they are much more expensive, or at least they were at the time.

Nice one bro even if I am late to the party. After my son asking for the PS Plus sub and getting cloud space of 100GB I thought well he needs an external. Not being a tech type person read some reviews from various sites and some would scare you. The product you bought and reviewed back then is the same I bought today, in a sale at Power Buy an Electronic/Electrical Outlet in S.E Asia so wanted to get it right as returns are frowned upon on most things. Anyway went to the store they never had what I was looking for which was a Game specific WD but with only 2TB, they had this one though. Quick look online again and the only thing that I could ascertain was that it was rated highly and the 3.0 USB was the thing to shoot for. So bought it then went to U-TUBE then you appear. My concern was the reviews i had read, buzzwords like some re-formatting required so that had alarm bells ringing for me. Should I have worried well no, your video was no B/S and the formatting was a click of the controller. Great upload easy followed and to the point man which I like, an easy subscribe for me and sure to hit you up for some issues along the way on various things that for some reason forums like Reddit and Playstation groups are very snooty about shall we say. Or what I would call a bunch of wankers but that is another story. Cheers man and after finally getting a handle on all the nuances that Sony lay down for you and mine fields I am about to put myself through it all again with a PS5 for Christmas on the cards.

The ps4 pro comes with 1tb so you are already better off then I was with my 500gb ps4. What are you willing to spend??? If it is a hard drive there are moving parts that get warm. If you buy a solid state drive (ssd) they are more expensive, with less space on them but they are faster, and they have no moving parts so they dont heat up as much.

When you click stop using storage device I believe that just tells the system not to save to it anymore not entirely sure. If you unplug the storage device the game tiles will remain on the system and tell you to plug in extended storage device to access the games. To my knowlege thats all i know.

I know that when the hard drive is plugged in it is using some power from the USB. Whenever I put my ps4 in rest mode, I'm guessing there isn't enough power to run both the ps4 and the hard drive. So, it gives the error that the hard drive was disconnected improperly the last time. I haven't experienced any data loss or corrupted hard drive. Also, game save data cannot be saved to the hard drive. So, even if the HD dies, that should not affect your progress on your games. Just redownload your games.

jet flap if you have any data on it that you need to save transfer everything to your ps4 if the hard drive is blank try deleting everything on it and hit reformat again. Make sure the hard drive is connected directly to the ps4.

Shud I put 2tb firecuda as internal drive and upgrade. or shud I buy the 4tb my passport wd external. Point being. Id say if you looked up the info for both external and internal. Either should be fine I got this one because it was cheaper where I was. I personally like WD products, but I have had a couple instences where I was sitting down to play and my hard drive was like "External Device not connected." Its only happened a couple of times and I would just restart the system making sure the cables were connected properly and it was all good. I dont mind an external but I think the internal might be more reliable. if its the same price I'd go for the internal. Just make sire it conelnects to ps4. Lol Hope this helps.

So basically I downloaded 100gb in a day with destiny 2 and f1 2017 demo. Was 40gb plus. Plus game data. So u can imagine the rate I am going at. And 2018. All free games will be huge. AZOOZ KOVA did it ask you to format when you plugged it in? If not then going to the external storage device settings and try to format it to the PS4 that should be in external devices in the PS4 menu see if you can format it from there. If you have formatted it then I have no idea I'll have to look it up

I haven't had any issues since I bought and started using mine. The only thing is sometimes the hardrive will disconnect and you have to "repair" it on the system it will say "repair harddrive" and it fixes itself and connects back. No corruption or loss of data. Hope this helps

knothole dude If you have an internal hard drive for PS4, which you should along with the external hard drive, either the my passport or another one, if you hit stop using this extended storage it should just save to your internal hard drive instead of your external hard drive to my knowledge that's what I think it does.

Crazy Hawk2828 I believe so if you dont think its worth it you can always just get a 2tb or even just a 1tb external hard drive cause when you format the hard drive it just ADDS the space instead of replacing the space internally

I dont know the number exactly but if your 500gb ps4 ever is full where it says "can't download update manger storage" or "not enough space" then with a 2tb you will be able to download 4x that.
